I did a dance of joy when Toronto lost the other day because I was sick of listening to nothing but them at work or on the radio.
Here in San Jose there are many people who claim to be hockey fans. You ask them to name other teams besides the Sharks and they cant. You ask them how the playoffs are structured and they can't tell you. you ask who won the cup last year and they can't tell you. They sit at Sharks games sipping drinks and chatting with friends until a fight breaks out. It's just a status symbol to be able to say "I go to Sharks games. It's hillarious.

While we're on the topic, was there a time frame for the "early 2013" models that had these issues vs others? I'm a 2013, but I'm under the assumption mine was towards the end of that production run as I have the newer styled touch screen head unit. I'm pushing towards 50k with nothing but an emission issue and a leaky drain plug that was my fault.

I'm guessing the previous owner beat the shit out of the car, then sold it off with a ticking time bomb. Perhaps even knowingly.

You can't blame Toyota/Subaru for a failing engine that has close to 100k on it already.

If the car was new off the lot yeah sure maybe, but it wasn't. You bought the cheapest BRZ you could find. What did you expect?

You can GE va good idea of the production range from looking at the VINs that are covered in the early TSBs.

In the video that the OP made, the first TSB about the "sowing machine" effect I'm definitely a victim of, but I don't personally think its that huge of a deal.

I think you may be better off to go and read the TSBs yourself. Totally disregard everything from that video since the fact can be very hard to separate from the fiction. Much of what he says will just feed the paranoia of people.

Oh for sure, i thought the little rattly knocker noise from that TSB was actually normal. When the OP posted that his car was at 90 some thousand not first owner it was kind of a meme from the first place, but that was the only thing said that made me a bit concerned

I haven't seen the parts for myself and I'm not sure if there are any other problems within the engine.

So during this downtime I decided to make an update video to my #drivermod build and list out 5 major (and not so major) problems that I've encountered. Please give it a watch (and if you can tolerate it consider subscribing!!! )

Episode 2:

I will most likely do another one of these videos in the future with updated problems and solutions. I'm curious to know if these 5 problems are in line with what you all have experienced (I did use FT86club as the basis for most of these) and just how often this actually happens. If you've experienced any of these please let me know how you handled it.

Here are the top 5 problems I talk about:
1. Valve Rocker Failure
2. Rod Knock / Spun Bearing
3. Coil Pack failure
4. Fuel Pump Chirping
5. Camshaft Position Sensor

Welcome to the forum. One thin I learned real quick around here is you can’t say anything negative about this car without a lot of blowback. People seem to downplay the frequency of these problems. For example the injector seal problem. Seems everyone who has done a rebuild discovers their seals are bad even though they didn’t have symptoms. I suspect a lot of people roll around with bad DI seals but not bad enough for the popping sound and then post on the forums about how they haven’t had seal problems. Then you add to the fact that people seem to not drive this car regularly so we are just now starting to see the masses reaching the 100k mark.

Anyways, add my 2013 to the list of Twins with rod bearing problems. Mine went yesterday morning on the way to work. I started the engine pull this afternoon and hope to have the block split by the end of the weekend. What problem have you had with yours?

Sorry to hear that! Mine is still sitting at the dealership. The last update was on Tuesday (4/24) and it was still waiting on parts to get delivered.

I can't say if mine has a bearing problem or not, it certainly made a rod knock sound right when it died. I had not heard of that sound throughout my short ownership which makes me think that the bearings were ok... but I can't say for sure.

There is nothing wring with discussing the issues. The problem lies in people that state it is most or even all the cars. The serious issues are much rarer than this forum would make them seem. There are maybe 30 cases of rod bearing failure reported here. Even then the vast majorly of those issues are restricted to the very early cars. There are still more of those early cars driving around that never had problems. Too bad you had the issue since it sucks but that does not mean that everybody will.
