Same applies for the poor English. If perfect grammar, spelling and syntax was a requirement to be here the place would be bloody empty.

Keep an eye on member classifieds, Craigslist and eBay. Should be able to find a good deal on low mileage for under $2500 and then shop around see if you know a family, friend, or coworker that will do the job for under 1,000$. Or research and learn how to do the work yourself. Take the bus or buy a cheap moped or street legal dirt bike in the meantime.
Also look into the lemon laws and the dealership contracts etc. call a lawyer/attorney usually free for a consultation and they may be able to help you work something out. |

Is everybody forgetting he had it over a month before it blew? How long should a used car dealer warranty last? The new car warranty had already timed out. He bought a working car. It worked fine for a month. It then went bad. We have no clue why it went bad so why is everybody saying the seller should be responsible? If you sold or traded your car and it blew up a month later would you feel responsible to pay for a new engine?
My personal thought is that he bought a $14K car with full knowledge it had a replacement engine, drove it for a month and is now stuck with getting a new engine. It sucks for him but that is life.

If you are spending more then 10k on a car you expect to either know about any issues when buying, or not have any issues for at least a year. Idk what the laws are in his state, or what is in the contract that he signed. But not even making it 60days seems like something was wrong before he bought the car and the dealership possibly knew/ was hiding it. Obviously he made a mistake buying the car in the first place and not researching and getting some kind of 1-2year warranty.
Like I said if you are patient you can do the job for 3500$. But In the meantime take your contract to a lawyer doesn’t hurt to see and check all your options. He may say sorry out of luck, or he may know something, or see something in the contract that at least covers some Of the cost. |

Also talk to shops, and see if you supply all the parts and or just the engine. Shops love to overprice engines. Can even get a quote for everything, ask for it to be itemized. After they quote you labor, say ok, I will provide parts will you do job for quoted labor? You may find they are charging 1500 for labor, and 4500$ for parts. When you could get parts for 2k less. And probably get a better engine as well.

Most good dealers, and many poor dealers as well offer a 30 day limited warranty on a used vehicle. That's it. Unless you buy an aftermarket warranty separately.
Some sell "as-is" only and you're rolling the dice. It's up to the buyer to be well informed before making that purchase. |

I love how everyone assumed he even got it from a dealership in the first place.
For all we know It could be private seller. I've seen people take you loans to buy private vehicles before. The other question I'd ask OP is what exactly has failed. And what he was doing when it did. |

The OP said “the place I bought from” not the person. Which is why people assume the place is some kind of dealer.
And you can usually negotiate into the deal a 1 or 2 year warranty or pay a little extra for one. I never said they hand them out like candy. It is on you to get one or go to a place that will give you one. |

My engine blew at 30,000. Had to bite the same bullet as you while paying off the car. Being only 20 at the time, I ended up blowing my saved money on it. In total it was approximately 3,000 total. 2,000 for a motor with 40k on it and 1,000 for the labor (didn’t even have to take the bumper off to replace the motor, the whole process of taking the old one out and putting the new one in was about 2.5 hours). Replaced by KAB Customs in Florida, who specializes in these cars and S2000’s. Take out a loan and get to searching for a good shop, and a decent motor. Best of luck, I know it sucks as my warranty was denied.

If you get a complete engine...

Replacing with the same engine is REALLY as simple as it gets for engine swaps in this platform. I paid 2500 for my engine from a junk yard 3 years ago and it's still going strong 50K+ miles later. Jaden |
