As cool as it would be for them to create a bigger engine for a 2nd gen 86, I honestly doubt it. Especially with the Supra right around the corner of making its debut again. It just doesn’t seem realistic for them to have a car that would compete with the Supra sadly. Again this is just my opinion.

Oh, I think it's about time to increase the power of the 86.

I think a 2.4 l displacement engine or by the addition of a modest SC should quiet most folks down.

No it won't. It will just up the number that people will say it "needs".
"What do you mean 250HP? My grandmothers Dodge Caravan makes nearly that. Needs to be at least 500 to be any good."

OFT and E85 should be enough as well. You can't get more out of 500 bucks anywhere else.

A W6 would be cool, though.

I know none of this is confirmed, but what if they offered two trim levels? New BRZ/86 skin w/updated safety features and old 2.0L motor for thousands cheaper, and the new 2.4L motor.

Just a thought, I doubt it would happen since the cars barely sell as is--they most likely just want to keep manufacturing simple and use the same factory they use for the current BRZ/86 if they go through with a second gen.

Plus the Supra already might come with 2.0L turbo and TT I6 from BMW (in some regions, at least). That would be a lot of the same cars (that don't sell in big numbers) in one showroom.

The 2019 Miata will make 181hp, so Toyota will either need to shed weight or add power to stay competitive.

That is presuming they give a rat's ass about competing with the Miata. Something tells me they don't.

I know Tada has a lot of interest in the ND and would be surprised if they didn't frequently compare the two cars over at Toyota.

The FRS would only need 215HP to have the same power to weight ratio as the Miata with 181HP. Well, assuming the curb weight of the Miata doesn't change. I hope they don't set their sights on the Miata. I'd rather see 240HP than 215HP.
