The startling fact there is:
43,000 planes lost overseas, including 23,000 in combat.
14,000 lost in the continental U.S.

60% of the losses were not combat!

Primarily due to lack of training I suspect.

And loads and loads of equipment failures. The north, inaccessible mountain ranges and dessert areas throughout the USA and Canada are still littered with wrecks from back then. Even just plain bad weather (i.e. Glacier Girls flight) was a much larger hazard than now.

Size: 163.5 KBDecided to not be lazy today and finish polishing the body. Burnt through the trunk a little, so resprayed it and lightly polished it. So it has some slight orange peel still, and some kind of clear coat bubble where the spoiler starts. Oh well.

Like this Canadian Fairey Battle #1642 that was forced down just west of Oshawa Ontario due to a broken oil line. It's my understanding that my father took this photo. However, he didn't think to write anything down about it for decades.

Lower cockpit details are done. Uppers, seats and pilots are base painted and on standby. Canopy also drying. I'd like to have her sealed by tomorrow night and moving on to the ordinance. I've got to clear some of the backlog.

it's not as impressive as the other work in this thread, but is technically plastic modeling.

it used to be a $5 bluetooth speaker. now it's a $105 bluetooth speaker that's been 3 years in the making. took the last 2 months to work, re-work, and acoustically engineer individual internal enclosures(made from oxi-clean cups) for the speakers, and get it all to look like nothing changed outside.

i should've taken pictures of the inside, but got distracted trying to get it done.

it functions, but it being only a 5 watt amp, it doesn't get as loud as i'd prefer. i'm considering alternatives to get it louder.

Well, some super glue shot out and landed on the bumper. BAH. Also, some more Aoshima quality annoyances. The rear taillight housing (chrome part) didn't fit well. Actually ended up cracking the paint as seen on the right side. The front headlight housing didn't even light up to the bumper (can see through the body because of the gap).

fyi, for future, push-on/push-off switches can be creatively hidden behind active panels-- push on the grille to turn on the headlights, etc. makes for a little more concealed setup.

My set up is completely hidden from view once I put on the hood (same set up as I did on the R33 and first R34).

And I don't have to get too creative since there's a hole there already. lol. Making use of the space given.
