Hey Dave, if I remember correctly you had the sti caliper upgrade front and back. Did you feel that you still needed more of an upgrade over that?

You want from stock to Sti back to stock? Did you not like the Sti setup? I planned on doing an Sti setup and nothing more. Any reason I shouldn't?

okay, tracked it hard on oe calipers...

they smoked a bit

after I parked,

after a cool down lap.

guess they got hot.

started it back up and drove it around

has nothing to do with being a noob- after maxing out 2nd and 3rd gears and hitting 4rth, then going into a 110degree corner requires standing on the brakes,at the very last second, if you were lucky enough to pass anyone on the straight-way, dropping to 2nd and redline to exit that corner into the next. its a one minute track so you dont get alot of time to cool off in 20 minute runs. I ran 1'21" initially and was at 1'11" by the time I got done. For reference, the guys in the 800hp open formula cars are turning the track in 58 seconds.

so far, no detrimental results, the ferrodos got smelly when it was hotter out during the afternoon, but I'm drinking the kool aid here to some extent, and its worked so far: i suspect there is much more heat generated when parts start to fail, ie, if you boiled the oe fluid, that gas build up and you pumping the brakes hard is what blows the seal, never track these cars with the crap factory fluid!

also, the crappy oe rotors as they develop surface cracks and defects, this pending failure can generate TONS more heat, that worsens the likely hood of boiling fluid, creating gas, and blowing/burning a seal.

Given the delicacy of the system, and failures I read here, I started with the motul 600, and went with a powerslot cryo rotor, not exactly bank breaking at $112 each, but almost twice a centric blank. the theory is if you can prevent the cracks, prevent the boiling, the systems heat 'malfunction' can be kept in check.

with more track days next month, lets see how this all holds up
yes, car could use a bit more brake...hello AP racing

Looking forward to seeing how your calipers hold up. Mine were smoking at Mid Ohio but no issues, the issues started after the third DE day

I'm planning on going to the track every other month, the main usage of my car is a weekend car that i'm hoping will last 100k+ miles. Will this brake kit be reliable for mostly street driving with a track day here and there? Not having dust boots will effect me in anyway on streets?

I basically want a rock solid brake system that is easy to use and good for both track and street driving.

These are going to be pretty tough to beat if you are going to be going that often and you live in SoCal. If you lived somewhere with snow I may be a bit more concerned. These calipers are fully serviceable and have a recommend service interval that I am sure Essex can provide more information on. I will be installing my kit next week.

I liked the face of the 17x9 wheel a lot better. What size spacer do you think is needed to clear the sprint kit Jeff?

I'm going to ask one last time since every other time I've been ignored. What is the status of the smaller 4 piston formula system?

They've replied before. That's an AP Racing system, not Essex Parts. It'll be released when AP Racing releases it, I'm not sure Essex knows any exact details since they aren't building those kits.
