I've been close to this industry for a lot of years.
So you would have them commit fraud?

It happens, and without even being fraudulent.

It's probably just me though.
Well, maybe not just you but, it's not me at least ......

I don't think I will feel that way. I love my car so much. Yeah, it sucks that this has happened, but it's a story. As long as the car isn't deemed unsafe to drive, I don't see the problem. If anything, it resets the front end because my bumper/hood/fenders had some paint chips from spirited driving on the mountain pass.

I am going to attempt to get the diminished value on it, but I gotta look into the steps. Thanks everyone.
They didn't total it at a near 14k repair estimate! I know it's not within the percentage but, damn. Unfortunately you wont know the total amount until they start the repairs, but hidden / additional damage is pretty common. Sorry to hear that

Wait till you see the new paint, and how quickly it deteriorates before you make a judgement.

DANG, Tokay444, you sure are being a Debbie downer.

The OP lives in California, not Canada, where ya'll use fermented beet juice mixed with sulfuric acid and salt, on your roads during the winter ......

Got the car back. It looks amazing and runs exactly as it always has. The guy who was in charge of the repair on my car went through everything with me, but essentially the entire front end was replaced. I asked the shop to send me all the pics of the car torn down and everything. As soon as I get those emailed to me, I post them.

Disagree. A well done aftermarket paintjob should be far better than the OEM. They are not tied to the same VOC requirements that new are and can use a more flexible and durable coating. Of course if the prep work isn't done properly then it does not mater how good the paint is.
