So basically what happened was I was driving thru an intersection at speed limit 25-30mph, and the at fault driver started turning left when they were supposed to yield before turning left. I saw it, slammed my brakes, but it had been raining all day so the roads were especially slippery because it was first rain after dry spell plus I had a little downhill momentum. I went into their front passenger side fender probably at about 10-15mph, and that was that.

where it happened:

their damage:

Hope you are okay, but don't admit that you're unharmed too soon since whip lash and other injuries may have a delayed onset. I'm surprised the air bags didn't deploy. I was in a similar accident in my RSX and the air bags deployed despite being a slower impact than OP's judging by the difference in damage

Yikes! Glad you're okay. IMHO hoping the claim will be totaled. Damage looks a bit severe but never know until they check out the entire car.

hmmm.......ya reckon she was "distracted" or, just not paying attention to what she was doing.....??

Reminds me of the time with my oldest son. He was 16 and I had bought him a 1966 mustang. One night he called and said that he had been in an accident and the front end of his car was messed up. It took my 3/4 ton truck to pull the car home.

I asked him how it happened. He said he was at this stop sign and he saw the other car coming ....... but he thought he could beat it across the intersection.

I said, son, the FRONT end of your car is messed up YOU DIDN'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO BEATING IT! (yes, I think I shouted .....).

THE END

I'd rather hope for it to get totaled than to deal with having an accident in your carfax history (in case you decide to sell it). Value goes way down. If they decide not to total it make sure you file a diminished value claim to get the lost value of the car.

Never intended to sell the car, so I'm not concerned with that. But I didn't know about the diminished value thing. Thanks!

Someone can correct me, but you could take the insurance company to small claims court if they don't total it, right? Try to get more money to cover the lost value... I'm pretty sure I've heard people go this route, although not everyone is successful and the cost of a lawyer can be prohibitive.
