Anyway I'm ranting, back to my original question... so is it safe?

Hoon I am not. (Old thread btw, long since resolved). I was saying I'm on the highway for up to 10 minutes sometimes at a sustained 4000 rpm in 6th gear, and was wondering if it was detrimental to the engine. At the end we all concluded I need not worry too much.

It's strange how threads like this get revived.

I find it annoying, but there is a certain amount of fun seeing a brand new member jump in to argue about something from years ago. I suppose it's better than starting a new thread to argue about the same old crap, say like.... I dunno... AT vs. MT.

4K RPM cruising on the highway, NOT in overdrive gear because pressing the pedal down would result in no go, doesn't seem like wanting to downshift a gear or 2 to get that go power, and going faster than typical speed limits (with the same excuse everyone uses, just going with the flow of traffic!).

Sounds like the target buyer for the twins.

Wear and tear would probably be faster, but theres probably no real way to calculate it, its just a function of the entire engine system (spinning faster, wearing out the oil faster, more fuel getting burned, engine probably running hotter).

Plus the engine can happily spin to 7400RPM so theres enough durability built in to withstand such abuse.

I find it funny that sometimes new members get yelled at for not using search.
And this something like THIS thread pops up and now people are all "why you revive dead thread?? wtf??"
