On the plus side I can now warn others through first hand experience.

Update:

So this morning the car would not engage into gear on the first clutch Press. So I let off the clutch then lifted the pedal toward me with my foot and then pressed the clutch in and it went into gear and has worked fine all day.

I took my car back to the shop and the foreman or whatever he said he was cane out to look at the car. Before he would let me explain the issues fully he jumped to the TOB. After messing with the car more he said that it may be the master cylinder he said the clutch felt really odd.

So he pulled a new 2018 or 2017 BRZ up beside mine and we tested the clutch feel in both and I started laughing. The clutch in the new car travels up much much farther than mine and is not soft like mine at all it has a nice spring to it. We then compared the slave cylinders travel when pressing in the clutch and the newer BRZs slave cylinder seemed to move a lot farther out once pressed in than mine did also.

He suggested we try to bleed and fill the lines real quick so I paid him $55 and we did that and the clutch didn’t Change at all. Now he suggested we replace the master cylinder he said he is 90% sure this will fix it they are going to charge me $160 for the master and about $160 in labor.

I want some second opinions on this because I feel like I just threw $55 into the trash and I really don’t want to end up throwing another $350 or so in the trash.

My clutch pedal does feel soft and is closer to the floor this must have happened gradually though because I never noticed a difference really but now after feeling the new BRZ it is EXTREMELY noticeable.

Please help me.

Dude. It IS the TOB. If you wait much longer it will shatter and take out the whole clutch. I just got my car back today from doing exactly that. It has nothing to do with the master cylinder.

Dang. I appreciate your help but can you help me understand it a little more?

Why would the throwout bearing start working immediately after I pull
Up in the clutch and then work fine the rest of the day?

Why would the throwout bearing cause the pedal to not come all of the way up on my car and feel spongy?

Because when you pull it up it unbinds it and while it is being used it heats up just enough to expand and not bind until cold again. You are showing every single sign mine did ubtill it eventually blew apart and took my clutch and flywheel with it.

Okay that makes sense a little bit.

It doesn’t seem to have an issue with the cold or warm weather it’s about 35 degrees out right now and this morning it was warmer than that. Also it is in my garage so it’s probably around 50 degrees at all times in there. I know you aren’t saying the outside temp matter much just letting you know.

What makes you rule out the master cylinder though? Just curious and trying to learn.

As soon as I pull up on the clutch it starts working fine even if I go into neautral and try again it doesn’t really need any time to warm up. I’m just more curious on what rules out the master cylinder completely and is there a way for me to test the master cylinder.

I always though if it was the TOB then the clutch pedal would because stuff. It’s almost like the pedal has a lack of pressure pushing it back up to its original position like a spring or some fluid pressure or something.

Meh. I knew the risks. If it was through procrastination or thinking all would be fine then it would be salt. I have broke cars before and will again so I can live with it.
I at least have the original transmission.

Not gonna read back. Did the clutch, or does it now make any squealing or grinding noise?

No it has not made any noise or squealing at all. That’s why I am so hesitant to drop the tranny and burn my wallet lol. I just want to be sure before I do that.
