Well, first off, I would suggest that you check the fluid level in the reservoir.

If it's a little low, just add some fluid.

If it's really low, some air might have entered the system, which would cause the clutch not to work too good. In that case, you should bleed the clutch hydrolytic system.

If the fluid is low, check for leaks, it went somewhere .....

Now, keep in mind, ol humfrz is usually the one that will suggest the easiest and simplest "fix" ....... which usually doesn't fix the problem .......

I hope you get it fixed so Santa doesn't have to bring you a new master and slave cylinder, hoses, clutch disk, flywheel, pressure plate and throw out bearing........

Slave cyl is on top. It's actually real close to the master. Shortest clutch hydro hose I've ever seen.

If it's just hard to get into low gears when it's cold, there is no problem.

If you've lost any fluid in the cluch fluid reservoir, you have a leak somewhere and will need to replace whatever is leaking.

Thanks again for all of your help.

So update: their was a smell of something burning last night after driving but I had the A/C on in the car for the first time in a while and didn’t know if this would have caused the smell somehow. The fluid reservoir is full and the fluid is a yellowish see through color so it’s not dark or anything.

I took a picture of the Slave Cylinder just now and I am going to post it. I believe the rubber boot is not on correctly and this may be my issue but I am not sure.

So the slave cylinder looks fine?

I thought maybe the rubber boot was supposed to cover the whole piece and it looks like it didn't go back or something.

This is the piece that the mechanic looked at and had me press in on the clutch while he watched it and after I pressed the clutch he watched it move and then determined I need a new clutch....

The pushrod goes through the dust boot into the piston. My guess is he watched it move normally and ruled out the clutch hydraulics as a source of the problem.

Okay, so what about the burning smell? Me and my girlfriend could smell it last night after we got home and I pulled into the garage. I do not smell it in the cabin while driving.

I didn't check it tonight for some reason when I got home but my girl went downstairs to the garage to do some laundry and she said she could smell it.

Yes this is my first winter with the car. So I need to maybe change the transmission fluid?

I seen a vid on youtube where the throw out bearing gets too hot or something. The video showed the bearing and it looked melted. This could be the smell maybe?

So if it is the throwout bearing, could that be something that is intermittent? I apologize I am asking so many questions but I truly appreciate your time and advice, I love my 86 and want to take care of it so I am trying to find the issue so I can fix it asap. Also hoping it doesn't cost me a kidney and a leg though lol.
