Guys, there IS a 2.4l coming. We said it at the NYIAS with the reveal of the Viziv 7 concept. I won't tell ya hp/tq specs. But yes, there is a 2.4l in the Ascent.

I am always pessimistic (the internet has jaded me) but as you are a reliable source I will have to accept that.

Like I said before that is what I get for trying to apply logic to the auto industry. I should have known better after all these years.

On the plus side, I found this on Subaru's twitter account while looking.

Is there a ramp nearby? Are they gonna jump it?

Are you able to tell us if it's slated to replace the FB25, or if they will coexist?

I would expect that all the bigger NA engines will be replaced by smaller displacement turbo variants. Subaru is known to be a conservative brand. What others were doing the last 5-10 years, Subaru will start doing now. Just think how many years took them to design a DI turbo engine. In some ways they are trying to improve, but they are still not there. When I am reading that Subaru will be a game changer, I am just laughing. You don't buy a Subaru to be on the edge of technology...

As of now, the only knowledge I have is it's for the Ascent. I could totally see variants of it replacing the H6 in the Legacy and Outback, and maybe a variation making it into the next STI, but who knows. That's only speculation on my part.

We're working on that. Slowly but surely. The Ascent will have some cool tech, as well as the next gen Forester.

Wouldn't that be nice? Unfortunately the take rate on XT's is incredibly low as it is, let alone if it were offered in a manual. I was genuinely surprised they even offered the new Crosstrek in a manual given that less than 1% of first gen Crosstreks were manuals.

Then you get the crazies on FB who comment on Subaru posts with "I want a 8.0L 4-cylinder quad-turbo diesel Baja with a manual transmission or I'm never buying another Subaru again!!!!" It's all a numbers game. If they won't sell many of them, it's not worth tooling a production line to make it.

I don’t know how different the right hand drive and left hand drive parts would be, but they sell more manuals in other markets, so it could be just a matter of making it work on a US assembly line or passing US crash tests with the manual.

Also they improved the manual too, going to a six speed and other associated modifications. The XT is already the performance engine for the Forester, so why not just throw a manual in there too?

To put it simply: not enough people would buy one to cover the cost of making the parts and tooling the line to build them.

Dude it is not that simple. There is far more going on behind the scenes in the car manufacturing business than you can imagine. I have been at it for almost 30 years now and it still boggles my mind. Just because .0000000002% of the car purchasing world want that one very specific vehicle does not mean they can just simply build it.
