The gearbox is there for a reason. Use it to address your complaints. Easy.

It's not your fault and most of the world forgives you.

As I understand it when you landed in the new world it was terribly cold and you didn't want to burn your ships, so you burnt your books instead. These things happen. Peace.

As much as I like to spin him up from time to time, he is absolutely right about revving out the engine to get what you want out of the car when you want to cut loose. In addition, torque dip or not, these vehicles get up and go more than enough to meet the average person's needs for tasks like merging in traffic and such. I loved being able to haul ass in the TDI without downshifting but I have never been in a situation where I couldn't get the twin to do what I needed it to do.

People justifiably complain about power and torque because having more is simply more fun. This car is well past the point of being unsafe for normal daily driving though.

Not fast enough to safely merge or get up to speed. Unsafe, inadequate, whatever. These cars are slow but are still pretty fast relative to most of what they share the road with.

This I do agree with very much so, slow but faster than basically 60% of cars on the road, maybe more. Some people are special though . I kind of have a picture in my head of the people who complain about torque also tend to drool from the mouth while driving and also have the tendency to make youtube/instagram/snapchat videos of their cars blasting dubstep/rap/OR THE GOD AWFUL TRAP, HOLY I HATE TRAP SO MUCH.

What car/cars are the complainers coming from that the 86 is too slow? I disagree with the "slower than 60%", because about 90% of the people on the road are unwilling or unable to use the throttle in whatever they are driving, especially when the road has anything resembling a turn.

The passing and merging complaints make no sense at all unless you are an inattentive drone. Take the thing out to the curves and learn how to drive it well despite the torque dip and lack of armrest. It 'aint that hard.

How many who complain about the dip also slam AT's because they lack "driver involvement"? LOL, overcoming the dip is driver involvement, and the AT's I've driven have been great fun. Had the new engine been available in an AT, I might be driving one of those.

If you get out of your 86 after a blast down your favorite stretch of road and are disappointed, sucks to be you.

Add: 17 MT with OFT tune, torque dip not even worth mentioning.

Faster than 60%* I said, strictly regarding straight line (I'm on your side).

People literally just have no idea how to drive, and seem to claim more torque than what the 86 has can save lives or make a daily commute less difficult lol

Agreed. 100% The number of drivers that accelerate on the straight then overuse their breaks on the corners is at best amusing.

The VAST majority of drivers never go above 6/10 on the road. (And that's me being generous). Just because some moron in a Camry decides that you are trying to race him/her (when in fact you simply want cruise faster than he/she is) decides to floor it on the freeway to stop you getting in front of him does not make the Camry a better/faster car. It simply makes the driver a moron.

Stop judging your car based on the average driver, in fact stop judging your car based on any other driver on the public road. The reason is simple: to prove your car is better/faster you would have to drive at a level that is unsafe for public roads and that would make you a bigger moron than the Camry driver.

Me I just smile at them secure in the knowledge that I have nothing to prove, can they say the same?

I don't know of another coupe that is RWD in this price range that has better performance. Hell it's faster and handles better than my '74 911 and nobody bitches about that car being slow. We've just gone HP mad. If you wanted a stoplight racer then you should have something else.
