I wanted a lightweight, RWD car with more than 2 seats.

Literally no other cars made in the last decade fit that description for under 50k.

I didn't realize you were committed to this thing. Congrats!

For the OP, my parents pressured me into buying something with airbags, not many options for non-convertible, RWD, <3,000 lb sports cars on the market at any price point, it's a winner in a lot of ways. I probably would have eventually ended up with an RX-8 if a dealership didn't finally come through after three months of searching for an FR-S with no options added. The RX-8 is probably the closest thing to an 86 built in the last 15 years.

Yep. As you know my original plan was 3 years which would have put me at around 150K and then onto something new.
You must have missed the posts last year where I said the plan was changed.
I was given a fourth plant to take care of and it is much closer to home. This dropped my driving from my distant one from 2 or 3 times a week down to 1 or 2 and saved me almost 50K over the last couple of years. I get mileage so it is more than paid for. I have not had to put one penny into it for repairs so am way ahead of the game. I can't stand the 17 front bumper, tail lights, steering wheel and interior so why trade for a new one to have a bunch of stuff I would eventually get used to but hate every minute of doing so.

Soooo I decided to keep it until it falls apart or just costs to much to keep going.

I caught hints of that but figured you had just extended how long you were willing to hang on to it, not necessarily that you'd maybe hang onto it for years and years.

Because they wouldn't give it out for free....

I don't really know precisely why I bought the car, wasn't really looking for a car and not a fan of Subaru boxer motors from past experience. Test drive was okay, but not a 'gotta have the car' experience. I guess I liked the idea of it (affordable sportscar that was a coupe with great looks and handling) and it was something that I could just afford, and I knew I did not want to buy a used one (was my first ever new car purchase.) I guess Chris Harris sold me on this car as well... think it was his first video that pushed me over the edge. So yeah, I guess if it really comes down to something, the first Chris Harris is why I bought the car....

Through the 5 years I've had it so far, it still feels special to drive and really LOVE the little thing...even with its faults.

many reasons...2+2 seating, handling, looks, simple interior, no steering wheel controls, tach in the middle and most importantly it is a "slow" car begging to be driven fast

I was getting sick of my 2007 Yaris, and was really thinking about trying to find a first gen MR2. Realized getting one was just not feasible for me, and I am just not going to buy an STI with that piece of garbage ej subaru gives us, so it was the BRZ, because I really do hate the stock interior.

At this point though I wish I just bought a 2013 FRS and used the money to mod everything, but oh well.

And yes, because it is cheap. I cannot tell you how much I wanted to try and get an Alfa 4C, but damn those have 911 level options, nothing in the US even remotely close to the base price. I hope the values of those drop, would be fun having a full carbon fiber tub to stick something ridiculous in.

When i was in college my brother sold me his 1985 corolla gts coupe. I fell in love with it! A few years later after i sold the car (family, kids, house payment) i read an article saying toyot and subaru were developing the twins to be like the ae86. I knew i need one before the ever hit showroom floor.

I love how much it reminds me of the original ae86. Enough power to have fun but not get into to much trouble. It looks amazing, handles like a dream, has room for 4, rwd and was inexpensive.

More affordable than a Lotus Elise, with very similar sports car characteristics. Once I started working in the sports car racing industry, my desires for a car became, light, nimble, drivers car.
