The new Camaros are a very, very good chassis and suspension wrapped in awful packaging and sheet metal. They are very much aimed at the 4-series and you are not going to get the same "sharpness" feeling from them as the 86 platform due to sheer size differences.

I will say that the V6 1LE I drove felt more lively than the 2LT V6 and 2SS (probably the combination of the SS suspension bits with the lower weight), but the sight lines and pricing in Canada make it a non-starter for me.

My wife has a V6 2010 Camaro RS 2LT. That car is fun, but in a different sort of way. It's kind of like how you have to change your mindset in an 86- you have to change your mindset to find the fun in a v6 camaro.

It doesn't have insane acceleration, but you can feel the power (it is after all over 300 HP). The handling on this 3900 lb dog is atrocious. AT, no LSD, heavy AF and rolly polley. The fun in that car really is that everywhere my wife goes she gets attention because the car is gorgeous (she is meticulous with keeping it detailed), everyone with a Camaro waves or looks at it. People she knows throw her compliments, strangers in parking lots or wherever are always talking to her about it. We take it to car shows and it's fun to cruise around in.

So as a performance car, it's not very good. But as a cruising car it is perfect. With the 2LT trim she has the upgrade interior and leather which makes a big diffeence with the car. Inside it is really nice.

You should race your wife...I wouldn't be shocked if the FRS was a shade quicker than the Camaro...

I had a base 12 Challenger that I bought new and while the 300hp made it plenty quick for everyday driving it wasn't fast. It wasn't much fun in the twisties but at over 4k pounds with an AT I didn't expect much but as an open road cruiser it excelled. It really was more of a grand tourer than pony car, it was stable, quiet and comfy up to license revoking speeds and was relatively fuel efficient all things considered. At ~80mph it would roll along at 33-35mpg as long as you didn't need to ask if to do anything more than just roll. I did notice when I was on back roads with Camaros that it had less body roll and I could come out of corners hotter but that could be because I'm a better driver than the typical Camaro owner
