I'd suggest G-Loc R8's over Carbotech XP8's, they're functionally basically the same but G-Loc is owned and operated by the brother's that were behind Carbotech originally.

As for the R8's, they're a bit more aggressive than the DS2500 or HC800+.

I've personally been DDing R10's, but they might be too noisy for other people. They only make noise at really light brake applications, if you're pressing harder they're silent.

If you don't want to do partial bleeds periodically then Torque RT700 or Castrol React SRF are great but expensive.
Ooops, forgot to mention this but it's explicit in the 'track prep your car' thread I linked.

I just switched to ATE Typ 200 (used to be known as ATE Superblue) as I'm not headed to the track anytime soon just autocross but that's probably a good place to start since it's half the cost of Motul and a quarter of the cost of the Castrol SRF.

The only reason I didn't mention G-Loc is because he's in Thailand there may not be a good supply chain yet, but definitely my next pad is going to be G-Loc. Your experience on the R10's is exactly what I experienced on the XP10's, I was hoping the R8/XP8 would be a step down from that and a bit more streetable as such, but I may be wrong. I could not DD the XP10 unless I was able to get them bedded in or at least up to operating temperature once a week, which I never felt comfortable doing on the street.

Edit: The XP10's performed great on the street (and autocross) but were just too noisy and I got tired of switching pads for autox since my OE ones were junk. Went for a 'sporty street pad' (Mu NS400) and I can fade it on a big autox course so G-Loc R6 is on my shopping list as soon as I kill these pads.

Winmax W2's do make noise when cold not bad and lasts a few min only, flush fluid with high performance fluid also. You'll be surprised the night and day difference even on the street.

Hey Captain, I quoted your post because I'll be doing my first track day in my 86GTS soon, and want a pad that I can swap out with my DD OEM set. I guess I'm looking for a compatible pad that works at the higher temps I'll see at Wakefield park. Since we're in the same country, what do you use for this purpose and where do you get them?

Only recent experience I've had with race brakes are the EBC Green Stuff pads on my Clubman. They are fine on the track but my clubbie doesn't tax the brakes too much given it's so light.

Keen to hear of your local experience for pads for the 86 and maybe a fluid too?

cheers,
Michael.

I think I've come across that statement a few times but never really understood why. How come we have to partial bleed after any track day with the RBF600?

I am researching a lot on brake pads and fluids to prepare for my first autocross and track day down the road. I've been reading so much material that it is getting all over the place in my head.

Because it degrades and your pedal gets soft, even with a novice driver. It's better than stock, but not as good as the nicer stuff.

Even with me being novice driver RBF660 with which i started, lasted longer. Imho it's worth paying for "nicer stuff". Hybrid pads on stock brakes were bottleneck rather then fluid. If anything, less frequent bleeds for better fluids imho will more then offset higher price, so see no reason to not fill with those from get go.
