*Update*

I received a call from them telling me the car was here. Currently has 270 miles, 120 was put on prior to getting down here from New Jersey. And guess how the 120 miles was put on...it was a Press demonstration vehicle like someone on here joked before.

So that means that was 120 miles of hard driving, pedal to the floor accelerating, hard braking, skid pad sliding, track spinning driving. And they want to sell that to me as a "New Vehicle" because it wasn't registered under anyone and I would be the first official owner. That means I would get the standard warranty which would start the day of purchase. And they say this to me as if it's good news.

Wonderful. : l

I'm going to Scion...
Supposively dealership swaps are done by semi-retired car salesmen and they are supposed to drive "gently", lol.

I had a dealer told me they can hire someone to get the car I want and drive it 600 miles here. "Don't worry, they are good drivers"/
I can't help but to think the dude might stop at some truck stop or or maybe someone like Jason Statham is driving the car like he does in his movies..

Hate to break it to you guys, but a 2013, untitled car with a few hundred miles is still a "new" car. I'll walk you through my entire inventory of Audis and you can count the number of cars with a couple hundred miles on them. We do dealer swaps all the time and cars come to us with as many as 400 miles on them. I've had maybe one customer complain before. We sold our general manager's demo A8 L with 5k miles on it ($92,000 car) as a "new" car (meaning it wasn't yet titled) for a $3k discount in addition to the $3k we would normally discount the new car for. Anyhow, I think you're all making a mountain out of a mole hill.

If you really want to, you can argue that you have every opportunity to buy another car at another dealer with under 10 miles, and the fact that it's been driven at a "press event" by everyone and their cousin makes you un-easy, and hope for some form of compensation. If they won't do anything, get another BRZ elsewhere. Simple as that.

These cars come with a powertrain warranty, yes?

Also, and I tell everyone this, test drive the exact vehicle you're buying before signing anything. Even if you've already driven the same model before. Even if you specifically ordered the car and want to buy one, etc, etc, etc... Just always test drive the car you're about to take home before you sign the paperwork. Test drive it thoroughly and make sure you're happy with it, because that is the exact vehicle you are spending your hard-earned dollars on, and it depreciates the second you pull off the lot.

This man right here. He is the correct one. I got my 135i with 5k miles on it (original MSRP $46.6k) for ~$37k after tax. It came "new," but the warranty technically started when the first person drove it. Since then, I've put on 3k miles and am sure glad that I saved over $9,000 at the expense of a year off of the warranty and 5,000 miles on the odometer.

At least, the dealer was honest and the OP could make the right decision.

Agreed. technically any car that has never been titled is considered a "new" car from a legal prospective. i would say that if I bought one with more than a couple of hundred miles on it, I would expect to receive an extended warranty to cover the lost portion, in addition to a reduced cost because of the mileage.

I taught my wife to drive manual on a test car. No way in hell I'd buy a demo manual unit unless it was a deep discount. Automatic at a dealer where sales guys are always in the car? Maybe but even then some idiots like to do neutral drops on test drives.

I also think proper clutch break in is important in the first few hundred miles.. want the clutch to bed in nicely.. Glazed flywheel or clutch changes are not covered under warranty.

Take the deal, whether money off or an extended warranty, you'll he glad you did. Don't let fears, paranoia, or the hysteria drummed up in this thread deter you.

150 miles is nothing in the scope of the life of this car. Most likely, they weren't all racked up by various test-drivers, but from a dealer or sales manager driving the car, someone more mature, and incentivized by sales and customer satisfaction, to boot. At the same time, while it's a new model, it's ultimately just part of another year's new inventory; i.e., remotely exciting at best; there is a very big difference between the enthusiasm that is part of work vs play.

Also, give some of those test-drivers some credit. Afterall, they are interested in the same brand of car we all are, a "driver's car," and they are also likely envisioning themselves as prospective buyers. Why would they want to try and beat on it? I test drove an FRS before I bought my BRZ, and I was gentle Furthermore, the salesman are quite aware of the break-in period, as it certainly helps to educate themselves in order to sell more cars.

Finally, consider that part of the recommendations made about the break-in period seem to prefer city-type driving: in the owner's manual, it mentioned to avoid maintaining a constant speed. IMO, those first 150 are probably "better" miles than the 150, likely highway (and therefore, a place where one may be prone to maintain more of a constant speeds), miles that will be put on there car to make the trade. To make matters worse, they'll be riding themselves or any future liability towards making and maintaining a happy customer. With 150 miles of open road and, what I imagine to be a young lot attendant behind the wheel responsible for the delivery (as I once was), he's almost sure to throw caution to the wind and give it more of a stretch than anyone else has cared or had such an opportunity to.

FWIW, there was 75 miles on my car before I bought it, albeit, unbeknownst to me before I paid. I sure didn't lose any sleep over it, and no doubt I wouldn't have hesitated to take the car, anyhow. I did get $200 off MSRP though, and in hindsight that's probably why.

Good Luck and Enjoy!
