The original piece doesn't have any PPF film underneath, and this riser actually has exactly the same footprint as the OEM piece. We got it 3D scanned and then traced the curve exactly. The risers contain foam and rubber underneath to prevent that, but it's a good idea to also perhaps supply paint protection film as well.
well... that answers that... drive on!

Was wondering why the risers suddenly got soo jiggly...Looks like the shitty PLA material created with the FDM 3D printed failed the slam the trunk test. This material has been great for test fitting but mechanical tests, which is the next step basically, it fails.

Going to reinforce this weak spot and get the next inner core prototype out of Glass Nylon. Expensive for prototyping but has to be safe!

Small update: The Glass Nylon internals have been ordered along with a strong ABS cover. They're expected to arrive on the 14th (longer timeline for this material) at which point I will do some trunk slam and fitment testing. I'm expecting this to be the last prototype due to using production materials, but anything could happen.

I also can get the parts at a lower price if I order more at once, so perhaps I'll setup a preorder once the part is ready for production.

Could it feel heavier since the existing weight is farther out? Kinda like holding and swinging a gallon bottle of water closer or farther away from your body???

Yes that's certainly possible. Also could explain why the front green clips easily pop-out; the focal point has changed and there's a ton more weight pulling it up.

Just found this thread. Hobby of mine is 3D printing as well, and yeah, PLA is definitely NOT good for mechanical strength on parts. ABS at least and you may have issues with glass nylon out of a FDM printer. I'd try ABS and try beefing the part up a bit (and more infill!). Unless you have access to a Markforge, which would likely be stronger than the wing...

I was looking at a Tommy Kaira wing but after seeing this...wonder how hard it would be to install on a 2015.

Glad you found it! 3D printing is pretty awesome. I ordered the Glass Nylon using an SLS printing company - The detail is incredible and its soo strong.

The 2017 wing could go on the prior models but would require drilling for screw placement - and you'd need to order a 17 wing. Unpainted they run for around $450. FT86SpeedFactory also sell a Carbon Reproduction of the 17 wing for prior year BRZ models.

I just test fitted the internal part and it works great. I'll post a video about that soon! We're almost down to the wire!

just curious, how will the extra height affect the downforce?

The wing will increase downforce as its higher and further back than stock. Don't have exact numbers though.

The glass Nylon internals came. They have the texture of a sugar cube and are extremely strong. When I clapped both pieces together it sounded like cement. Looks can be deceiving!

Also got my new drambeenie logo on it which features the same dinosaur thing as my avatar, which is actually a blow up pool toy belonging to my friends kid.

The Glass Nylon risers are extremely strong and fit perfectly. I replaced the green clips with a bolt as a test to see if it'll keep the risers from popping up and they do! The risers don't raise at all. The only issue with that is if the green clips aren't strong enough and I do need to use bolts, it's extremely difficult to access them from within the trunk - So I need to think of a solution for that. Asking people to use a saw drill is not gonna fly.

I drove around the city with the wing reaching a maximum speed of 50mph and also drove on very bumpy roads. The spoiler doesn't seem to flex when driving even on bumpy roads - it's really solid, and the Glass Nylon pieces have no cracks or anything, even with multiple hard trunk slam tests. $ material, but it's the good stuff!

However, after doing the trunk slam test, it's pretty clear that a middle riser is 100% necessary and can't just be an optional thing. The aluminum spoiler jiggles ALOT if you slam the trunk from the trunk. If you're pushing down on the spoiler to close the trunk there's very little-to-no jiggle, but I can't tell people they can only close their trunks one way - So a middle riser will now be developed to prevent this issues.

How much jiggle? Is it pretty stable at speed?

When driving little to none. If I hit big bumps it vibrates, but my car is lowered so it's much stiffer.

Just took it on the highway at highway speeds and it handled very well little to no movement. It's when I got to slower speeds and drove over bumps it vibrated slightly and not on all bumps.

With the center support I bet it won't move at all, but we'll find out!
