Thanks! Just ordered the shift boot and ebrake boot in genuine leather with the gray stripe. Cant beat the price. I used J F Customs leather on a lot of my vettes interior its good stuff.

The JF Customs leather ebrake and shift boot came today. Great quality leather for ~$40. Ebrake cover transferred over easily used PLioBond to glue it down.

The shift boot had the perfect transfer cuts already done. Getting the head around the Reverse lockout was the only difficult part. Took a 1/2 hour of prying with small pokers to get it around. Would not recommend this boot if you have a colored lockout would get scratched up. I have a brushed aluminum so its easy to fine sand and polish back out. Now to the pics!!!
Found these in the glovebox while cleaning guess the dealership forgot!

Comparison Old flimsy vinyl stock on the left , fresh leather on the right
All put back together after the pliobond dried
Now some interior shots a little better than my older ones. Taking pics from the driver side were to much sunglare.

Shorai Battery install today. DIY home depot Cage

Here is a Cradle to hold The Shorai LFX36L3-BS12 which is one of the larger batterys that should have better juice for DDing. No stock parts modified so you can put stock battery back in for winter if needed.

Tools needed:
Some form of cutoff wheel
Drill or Drill press
Hand tools to take out and in battery

I always start by weighing everything for now on.

Stock 2017 battery 29.25 lbs

Shorai 4.75 with terminals added

The 3 main parts from homedepot found somewhere near the lumber. The top piece has legs that will need to be cut off, the 2 side pieces you just cut off one side then mount them both to the top part

Here is the Part# for the Base cage

Here is the part #for the 2 side cages

Here is the battery sitting in the base cage once the legs are cut off you can see only about 1/4" of space will be a snug fit once the Shorai foam is added

Here is the cage built just used some basic bolts with lock washers nothing fancy here only about 1.3lbs gain

HEre is the battery sitting in the cage on the scale
We will call this 6lbs total for a 23lb LOSS!

Cage will be mounted directly to this bracket, 2 10mm bolts.

Added some leftover heat shield I had while I was waiting for paint to dry.

The holes already premade on the cage were nearly a perfect line up to the cars bracket. I didn't not plan for this but the car gods where in my favor. Also did a little high heat red paint

Cage Mounted in the car and also added the foam to the insides.

Battery mounted with stock bar tie. With the cage its only job now is to hold down instead of laterally. Also used the provided Shorai mount extenders to push the terminals up and to the side which will make the dimensions closer to stock when trying to attach the wires.

Everything mounted Final pic. Plenty of room around the battery to breathe, Playas need their space!

I have honored the weight reduction gods today with a 23lb saving off the front of the car with a ultra sturdy setup for track days!

Whats the reason for taking the rear bumper beam off? Wouldn't it be pretty bad if you got rear ended now?

Not going to get into the whole debate but bumpers aren't designed for safety as they are designed to keep things less damaged for the insurance companies.

Read this from the NHTSA line 2:
) What is the purpose of bumpers?

The car bumper is designed to prevent or reduce physical damage to the front and rear ends of passenger motor vehicles in low-speed collisions. Automobile bumpers are not typically designed to be structural components that would significantly contribute to vehicle crashworthiness or occupant protection during front or rear collisions. It is not a safety feature intended to prevent or mitigate injury severity to occupants in the passenger cars. Bumpers are designed to protect the hood, trunk, grille, fuel, exhaust and cooling system as well as safety related equipment such as parking lights, headlamps and taillights in low speed collisions.
https://one.nhtsa.gov/cars/problems/...per/index.html

Front bumper delete and Windsheild washer container were my first mods took 21 lbs off the nose of car. I remember hearing they don't have these bumpers in Japan.

More weight reduction

Welcome back to Weight Reduction Thursdays!

Thanks to reading that Anthony weight loss thread I decided to remove the DI Ecu mounts in the engine bay + some others.

Found this metal bracket just to hold the radiator hose

Behind the intake manifold are 2 brackets bolted together just to hold some wiring harnesses in place big chunk of metal. cut it down and still holds them in place perfectly
Before:

Cut off at the BLue lines leaving one hole to bolt into

End Result

Everything on the scale not a lot of weight but FREE!! 5.8lbs

DIY rear seat delete $60

Here is my version of a homemade rear seat delete for much cheaper than the vendors sell with parts from Homedepot, Pepboys. Total weight loss 27.5lbs

Parts needed:
Large Pieces of cardboard leftover from racing seat boxes - Free
Chloroplast Sheets homedepot 1 large, 2 small - $20
3m Spray Adhesive - $10
Large Black roll of carpet from Pepboys - $30
Larger/Longer press clips things Pepboys - $3
Sockets set - get your own or borrow from neighbor with beer

In usual fashion I start by weighing everything taken out since the purpose of this is weight reduction.

Everything out pic

Seat back ~14.25 lbs

Seat bottoms 4.25lbs each for total of 8.5lbs

Seatbelt equip/ brackets/ bolts 11.25lbs

Total weight removed 34lbs

Can't say I came up with this myself there was another forum member who made his out of cardboard. My version will be backed with a layer of chloroplast lightweight sheets from HD to get a more solid yet lightweight structure.

Cardboard Template

Mating up with trunk connection points

Adding the chloroplast sheets over the cardboard using the spray adheasive

Covering everthing with the carpet

All the pieces being weighted got 2 cheap pillows from Walmart to use as a cheap lightweight sound deadening for each seat bottom area. 6.5lbs going back in the car. Net weight loss 27.5 lbs

First install you can see the area where the carboard flexing got wrinkly this is unacceptable. Also the top shelf was not clipped down tight enough either

Made a piece with remaining chloroplast to fill in that area

kit uses the stock mounting bolts too

Final Shot

Ordered some resistors to remove the back roof airbags since no one will be sitting back there. Should get some of the weight back from the kit install.

Driveshaft Shop carbon fiber driveshaft 11.25 lbs

And changed out HKS dual resonated front pipe for Invidia Catted front pipe 9.25lbs
about a 1 lbs heavier than the HKS. Love the sound of the HKS but wanted to add a cat back in to help with the smell when sitting at red lights ect.

I'm surprised that removing the DI ECU mounts didn't cause you any trouble. My car wouldn't start without being bolted to them for grounding. A few weeks later, my DI ECU failed.

On mine there is still one solid bolt on the bottom holding it. I was also went back and added a ground strap from the top of the ECU to the block after hearing this from other people. I think the new models got the bolt on the bottom so it was still grounded.

Read in Anthonys post where he saved about 30lbs removing AC & components .

Just did this today using the Raceseng AC delete pulley kit which is very nice but I only saved about 15lbs

Here is the Raceseng kit about ~2.25lbs very light and very well constructed

Here is the AC compressor ~9.75lbs

Here is the AC radiator and all the underhood piping ~7.25lbs

installed pics

Gives me a net weight loss of 14.75lbs not as much as expected

At looks like Anthony counts all the vents and motors underneath the dash.
Is there another AC component under the Dash I can take out that not hurt the ability to use the heat?
