Really wish that these graphs showed elapsed time. Anybody know the average time of a dyno pull?

and that is just a sample size of one. Other set ups eliminate it more (or less I guess).

One vehicle with one set up not one pull. Silly Extra.

I don't know about this engine, but a dyno pull on my Jeep's motor was about 15 seconds or so.

Depends the gear and unfortunately there is no norm. Some might use 3rd gear, others 4th gear, others 5th gear. It is also an easy way to show gains from nothing (before & after). The 3rd gear will always show lower output than the higher gears.

Yep. A very quick and dirty search shows that depending on gear the average pull is between about 10 and 20 seconds. So for the sake of argument let's just say 15. That puts time at about 2.5 seconds for each 1,000 rpm. This means that if running from 2,000 to full rpm the dip has an average impact on acceleration for somewhere around 1.2 seconds. It of course does not mean you are not accelerating at all during that time just that you have a minor reduction. This sure blows the whole "I get in the dip and can't match traffic speed" argument right out the window.

Which, begs the question, in my mind at least, if it weren't for dyno pull graphs, would the "torque dip" actually exist ??......

If a torque falls in a dip but no one is there to plot it...

Yes, it is obvious during normal "non-aggressive" driving. The remedy is to rev the shit out of the motor.

I've come to terms with the dip and it no longer effects me during normal driving. Just give the bitch gas and don't baby it.

A 2nd gen roadster (ala Miata) would be interesting. Steal some sales from Mazda. A properly done Roadster would also shed some weight. Shedding some weight is the same as adding more power. Seems like the obvious choice for a 2nd gen.
convertible 86 would be terribly niche, and exactly who would that cater towards? I can't imagine any buyers that are looking for something other than a Miata, 370z roadster or Mustang/Camaro convertible...look at S2000 sales, took like 10 years to sell 100,000 units globally..

..2nd gen should mainly focus on having an even lighter chassis and possibly two engine choices (one to shut torque cry babies up).

I'm wondering if the automatic equipped BRZ/86 torque dip is less noticeable due to converter slippage and the computer selecting the gear.

When driving my 6 spd. I just keep the RPM up, because, after all, it IS a four banger. I just chalk it up to normal driving procedure for this particular machine.

My 2001 Miata has no torque dip, but it will occasionally scare the hell out of you if you're trying to pull out into traffic and you're not up in the RPM range.
