Different engine and different driving styles. If you're just exploring the track, it doesn't hurt too much to do light runs up to these temperatures. It can be heavily regulated if you know what you're looking for. But do we recommend not running an oil cooler for the track? No. It's better to be safer with a $700 item rather than a $4000 bill. Plus your ECU doesn't have to pull timing.

For those who are fast, just be mindful of what you're capable of and how much the system can take.

Sure, and the 2017s have an oil temp gauge. But it's track season, not go to one track day season. Just back from NCM Motorsports Park and my oil-cooled temps were about 230-240 all day long, air temp were around 70. That's a good engine environment, I'd say.

Cool, nice to hear that 2017s have that.

My point was that you would have been fine if you waited on the install and ran the first trackday stock instead of cutting off your airbox.

Understood, OND. I know a few people have been really concerned about that $50 piece of plastic ! I think I'm probably a little sensitized to engine safety mods (oil cooler) from owning 2 STIs, the first one of which cracked a ringland at it's first track day because I'd never heard of an AOS. But I'll never use it after I source an older one and I'd never sell it or buy aftermarket, so what the heck. It was fun using the multi-tool and the box does work
