doesnt hurt, I had mine rustproofed from the dealership and my accord before it was rustproofed, 10 years later it still looks new underneath. I would personally never have an unprotected car especially where I live

Krown. Once a year. Not so much undercoating but rustproofing. I know for a fact that it works.
Cars that are not protected in the rust belt will turn into dust. I have seen horrible examples. It is not that new cars are insufficiently protected, but the smallest scratch or nick can turn into a hole in no time

What do you "rust proof" it with? Fish oil?

Not a bad choice...
One of the most effect methods is a light spray of used motor oil every year. The problem with MOST (not all) aftermarket rustproofing is they tend to plug drain holes and actually increase the chances of rust out. This is one of the classic dealership scams - extremely profitable and dubious value at best. A quick internet search will turn up any number of articles on this topic. |

In Hoboken you get on average 27" of snow/year,here in Baltimore we get 20" of snow/year.
1995 Toyota pickup daily driver ,12 years-no rust. 2007 Yaris daily driver ,10 years-no rust. 2002 Avalon, wife's car and for long trips ,15 years-no rust. My secret is when I wash my cars (often) I hose the wheel wells thoroughly . |

Light oil sprays are best, provided there is proper and skillful application. They don't however, last forever. Yearly or bi-yearly re-sprays should be done. Wax or tar based products are (IMO) junk, and can actually make things worse. That said, cars are generally built with better prep, technique and materials than they were even a few years ago. They will outlast most people's needs. I choose to keep doing mine each year because I intend to keep the car around a while and I believe it makes a difference.
