I believe they are easier to steal than key ones. But our BRZs have LoJack...so no need to worry!

I don't see thieves targeting these cars. They are pretty rare and they typically go after cars such as Accords, Civics, Ford and Chevy trucks, etc. Because there are so many on the road and it is difficult for the police to find a stolen one.

If someone wants to steal my car, I am under no illusion that they can be stopped. Hackers have recently demonstrated that they can takeover the On-Star system as well and Bluetooth is easily hacked so people can listen to your conversations in your car.

But the quedtion is why would they want to hack your car? It is not easy to hack and it is time consuming.

I am not sure how onstar communicates but bluetooth is usually turned off when your car is parked. And to msintain a bluetooth connecyion, said hackers need to be within range...which would be funny to watch in a moving car.

Why does the NSA want to capture all my phone calls and emails? Because they can. I am not worried about it, just pointing out that most of the technology they put in cars is easily hackable. Om-star was hacked many years back and hackers demonstrated how they could control the car, and listen to conversations.

That said, if someone wants my car bad enough nothing stops them from carjacking me. I once saw someone get carjacked in Washington DC metro area in the middle of the day with people all around.

Tbh, if u look at it that way...it does not mattrr what u own...they can easily use those devices that records glass vibrations to "listen in"....god knows if they have a satelite that can that now

That's awful. Another reason why I carry every time I'm not at work.

There's too much atmospheric distortion to use laser listening devices from a satellite, even with adaptive optics. You can sleep easy. Besides, why would they do that when they can just activate the mic on your cellphone anytime

On a related note: What happens if you are carjacked and the perp drives away while you have the key in your pocket?

Does the engine shut down in a few hundred yards?
I have wanted to do the experiment, but havent yet.

Any car can be stolen if someone wants it bad enough. Short of high tech equippment(expensive) or a tow truck, our vehicles are fairly safe. Older cars had very few if any anti theft devices.

Once the car is turned off it will not turn on until the key is in it proximity. The Corvettes with the first keyless starts were bad at this. The antennas were too strong, you could get in the car when your keys would be inside. There were other issues such as the system not arming itself. This was the 06 year if I remeber correctly. Luckily technology gets better- allegedly.

Funny story... I came outside to start my car one day and went back inside of my house. Ended up locking my keys inside of my house and thought I was screwed. Called a family member that lived maybe 10 minutes away and they said they were at a mall 15 minutes away and they had a spare key for my house. Ended up driving to the mall to find out that they had left and went back home...

I was able to drive to the mall, then to their house, and then to my house and the car did not turn-off at all. What I found out was that if the car stays on, it'll stay on. If you shut it off, you can't turn it back on. Scary to know, but it helped in my situation

I was wondering what would happen in this situation. It's good and bad.

Also, as opposed to a car with a key, you can't turn it off while in motion. You have to be stopped to turn it off.

I couldn't turn it off even at 5mph. Had to be completely stopped.
