I had a chance to look at the video with your comments.

I thought I was high enough RPM that the shift wouldn't cost me, but it did. I usually just ride it to the redline in 4th. I did go straight from 5th to 3rd. The gear calculator in HLT thought I was in 4 for a bit.

Quote:
T8 - I would try the tight line into Temptation as it suits our cars very well. That means brake and then turn in against the first curbing, then out to 1/4, 1/2 track, then back in 1/4, then apex. Don't be afraid to let the car run out wide close to that curbing on right, as it will be less steering input and smoother for throttle application.
Ahh, Temptation. I tried the tight line on some other laps. I'll check to see if I went through there faster. A nice feature of HLT is that you can see the time gained/lost vs a reference lap and can zoom in to the exact location on the track.

Quote:
T15 - Shift early before turn-in to 4th. You're only full throttle for a sec before apex, where it should be opposite. Turn-in, maintenance throttle to position the car to grab the apex and then full throttle down the hill from that point because you need to plant the rear of the car down. At the 2:21 time in your video you should have your foot to the floor until 2:25.
Got it. Not sure what I was thinking there. I usually take that corner in 4th.

Quote:
T17 - Stay right edge (don't go out to left like many do) on entry. You can then brake hard in a straight line and even if you go too deep, there is still more track ahead (if you enter from left and go deep, there is nowhere to go as you are already on the edge). You'll see that the grass is worn away on the right at entry, this is the apex.

T18 - Do not apex the middle of 18 but go left with tires at the curb of pit entry. This will give you the best approach to 19 and 20.
Got it. I was trying a wider line to see if it helped with 18, but as you pointed out I ended up apexing 18 early.

Quote:
Front straight - not sure if you were backing off after this hard lap, but you are only at full throttle at beginning of straight, then you tend to lift partway through. You will gain the most by maximizing the amount of time you stay on-throttle at the highest speeds.
I think there was somebody catching up to me, so I started to slow down so he could get by in the next straight since I had just had a clean lap.

Great vid, love the Harry's timer with data overlay. Seeing your gearing and throttle position really helped me analyze.

Hope this helps!
Thanks again for the help.

I didn't use the video the first time out, but now that I have been recording my laps I find it really helps because I can see where I'm making mistakes and which corners I am more consistent on.

I really wasn't expecting to gain any time on Sunday since I was out with my daughter for fun but since I ended up being much smoother through the turns my overall time was much better. Go figure.

Yeah, there's another 5 secs in there easily. Will try to hop in with you at MCO, are you cleared to Solo?

That would be great if you could. I'm not cleared for solo yet by the MCO, but I'm not sure how it works for riding with instructors.

Nice driving Mani.
What kinda power is that thing putting out?
I'm guessing weight is under 2000 lbs? (looks semi-stripped but I don't see a cage)

Thanks Andre.

It isn't under 2000lbs for sure, I think the owner said about 2200 ? It is a fairly mildly built car, has a lot more room to go.

I would have preferred a fwd car to be more tail happy than this one, but for its current owner, this is a safe setup for him to learn on.

It is making 223whp, but the tune is very rough on it, you can hear it in the video that it crackles even under WOT at points, let alone part throttle. It is quick, but nothing crazy, the chassis feels great. I was actually very very surprised how great it was. Definitely have a different outlook of the Civic's now.

Beautiful day at Calabogie today. Temperature was not too hot and not too cold. It was nice and sunny too.

There weren't very many cars out today so it was really easy to get clean laps where you didn't need to pass or let anyone by. That said, there were some nice cars out. Several Porsches and GT-R to name a couple.

Managed to cut almost 3.5 seconds off my previous best time! Now at 2:43.6. Also hit a new top speed mark, 173.7 kph.

Thanks again @Slick for the advice, it certainly helped.

Since I wasn't sure if I would go today I didn't swap in the track pads. It made for a couple of interesting moments braking into turn 6 after a hot lap when the OEM pads started fading out pretty seriously. I knew it might be an issue so I was keeping an eye out for it, but I didn't expect to be as sudden as it was. Last time on OEM pads for me unless we are going to be running in the rain.

Great afternoon on the track for sure! Was great to run with you out there today. The air was cool and dense and helped everyone make more power. I was at least 2 kph faster at the end of Rocky Road because of it. You'll be knocking that lap time down no problem with better pads and tires next season.

It was a beautiful day. It was great being able to just show up without having to register. It would have been a bummer to register for yesterday with the rain. Hopefully they will have the same on Saturday Oct 18 and Sunday Oct 19.

I noticed a bit more power too - my top speed was 2.7 kph faster. I had a best lap of 2:32.2

Just looked at some of the log data. I actually got up to 174.6 on one of my fast laps but lost time in other places.

Definitely more powah in the cool air.
