A few videos from our Monday, July 21st lapping day with MCO.

Track was nice and fast, well-rubbered in, and was able to set a personal best lap of 2:29.4 for long track.

.

11am Session with passenger.
A bit of sideways action at 0:51 through T10
fastest lap starts at 2:00 min
[ame]http://youtu.be/6_jyj3xfX08[/ame]

.

4pm session with passenger
I chased down a 1M at start of session, but only turn on camera just before getting point by and then gap him by a straightaway within 2-3 laps.
I chase down a new M3 and catch up to him but as I get close, he pulls into pits.

Thanks Andre.

One thing that I noticed is that there are a couple of spots on the track where I tend to go wide whereas you tend to be more centered. And vice-versa.

I get the feeling that I am overthinking it too much in some spots and trying to force my car to go on a specific line, which is not always the right one, instead of just taking a more natural "feel" line.

Does that make sense?

I'm guessing T6 is one of those corners? Lots of people go way out wide, but you need to stay right against the curb and there is natural camber that helps grip the car and hold that line.

Makes perfect sense.
One of these corners is just before T14. The car wants to go right after the left hander so let the car go there and then stay to the right until you turn in for T14 (early apex there) and then open up your steering and let the car run wide to the right side on exit.

I think I actually take 6 pretty well.

I didn't record any video from Monday, but I'll do a side by side of my last video against yours (yours slowed down) and check the differences.

OK, side by side is very interesting.

- I am waaaay late turning in on 2. Line is good on 3 and 4, but I've got no speed.

- Coming into turn 5 I am closer to the center of the track and turn in much later than you do. As a result I end up having to scrub a ton of speed to get a decent line into 6. So while my line into 6 is OK, I'm carrying very little speed. Again.

- Temptation. I take this turn a lot tighter than you do and end up scrubbing speed off. I had a better line on this on Monday.

- I actually do a decent job through 10 and 11. Yeah!

- Turn in late again on 12 and have to scrub speed.

- Other than being slow because of 12, I have a pretty good line through 13 and 14.

- I was a little late on 15, but not too bad through 15 and 16.

- On the lap I had recorded I messed up 17 and 18. I drove them much better last time out.

- Considering the mess up on 17/18, I did 19 and 20 OK.

It was interesting to watch the video side by side. It turns out my positions on the track weren't too bad, it was really just my turn ins that need work. Because I am usually late I always end up having to scrub speed in the corners which is killer.

OK, let's see if this works. Here is track video from 1morelap on Sunday.

For some reason the overlay data doesn't start at the start/finish line, but hey.

Any comments are welcome.

Hi John,
What tires are you running?
and brakes?

A few observations:

T1 - I think you turn in well but you stay to the left. Let the car drift back toward the right side of the track to keep momentum after apex (outside-inside-outside). After this high-speed turn, once you feel the car is planted then right back on the throttle and stay on it a bit longer before braking for T2. Also, do not downshift into 3rd before this corner, stay in 4th through 1.

T2 - Turn in is good but a bit too far off the apex so you get pushed out wide right after.

T3 and T4 is excellent, great job through there and you're at full throttle right at apex of T3 where you should be and stay on it all the way through 4.

T5 - Given your great entry onto Rocky Road I was expecting to see you hit 170. So you could brake later and I'd probably stay in 4th instead of shifting into 5th. That way it is only 1 gear down for the turn, or go straight from 5th to 3rd if you can do that.

T6 - Go all the way to the bottom of the track before 6 then scrub some speed off and make sure you stay inside and against the curbing (right at the start). That edge of the track is cambered so it sucks the car in and keeps it planted through that turn giving your more grip.

T7 - Turn in a bit earlier and the blind corner will come to you, don't wait to see the crest. Also, you get off throttle and then back on probably from the late turn-in forcing you offline.

T8 - I would try the tight line into Temptation as it suits our cars very well. That means brake and then turn in against the first curbing, then out to 1/4, 1/2 track, then back in 1/4, then apex. Don't be afraid to let the car run out wide close to that curbing on right, as it will be less steering input and smoother for throttle application.

T9-11 - Your line through these corners is great, you can however carry a bit more throttle through 11. If you are on and off throttle in a turn, it generally means you need a more consistent arc. Think of 10/11 as one turn and it should help.

T12 - Tons of people tend to not be patient enough through 12 and power on too soon. You do a great job of holding the proper line and then getting on the throttle.

T13-14 - Excellent job through here as well, great early apex at 14, going right edge and staying in 3rd to climb the hill.

T15 - Shift early before turn-in to 4th. You're only full throttle for a sec before apex, where it should be opposite. Turn-in, maintenance throttle to position the car to grab the apex and then full throttle down the hill from that point because you need to plant the rear of the car down. At the 2:21 time in your video you should have your foot to the floor until 2:25.

T16 - This one's is tricky, very high speed turn but lift, tap, get the car settled through the corner and once stable back on the gas fully.

T17 - Stay right edge (don't go out to left like many do) on entry. You can then brake hard in a straight line and even if you go too deep, there is still more track ahead (if you enter from left and go deep, there is nowhere to go as you are already on the edge). You'll see that the grass is worn away on the right at entry, this is the apex.

T18 - Do not apex the middle of 18 but go left with tires at the curb of pit entry. This will give you the best approach to 19 and 20.

T19 & 20 - Great line through the 2 last corners , this is key to getting straightaway speed. Try to stay on the apex at 20 for a second longer (follow the curbing)

Front straight - not sure if you were backing off after this hard lap, but you are only at full throttle at beginning of straight, then you tend to lift partway through. You will gain the most by maximizing the amount of time you stay on-throttle at the highest speeds.

Great vid, love the Harry's timer with data overlay. Seeing your gearing and throttle position really helped me analyze.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the great feedback Andre.

I'll take a look at the video again with your comments to try and embed them into my brain for Sunday. I might have a couple more questions.

I have Winmax W4 brake pads and the new tires are Hankook V12s, the new models. The brakes have plenty of bite so stopping power has never been an issue for me.

This was my first time on the Hankooks so I was trying to get a feel for them. I'm not sure if I've got the pressure right for them, I was running 36 PSI hot on Sunday.

It is brain dead simple if you use Harry's Lap Timer.

Just select the lap and hit the overlay button. Done.

The phone GPS isn't as accurate as the external GPS units like in the AIM units but it has been really helpful for me. It also supports using an external GPS for higher accuracy, which I might consider for next year.

What type of phone are you using John?
I tried to do video with my Samsung S3 and it was pretty choppy and resolution was bad. Have an S4 now so I should try it again.

What mount do you use for the phone? I tried one of those "Gripper" mounts and it held the phone quite well. just it gums up the phone after a while.

I have a Nexus 5.

I only set it to 640x480 recording on Sunday but I'll probably use 1280x720p this weekend. The last time I tried HD recording the files sizes were gigantic and I had to re-encode them to do the overlay since HLT only supports a 2G recording size, but I can't remember if I had it set to 1080p that time.

I am using the following mount.

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...0cd1888aeden02

I have it mounted right under my rear-view so that it's out of the way.
