Once I have all the LS swap gear in hand, I'll start that part of the project. Engine should be here in the next month or so, I don't have the transmission yet either, still need the hydraulics and motec. Better pick a clutch soon, I'll probably go with a Clutch Masters unit.
I have lots to do though. I'm going to install the 8.8 diff first (I have the diff but have not yet received the axles, hubs or drive shaft. Then the suspension and brakes and wheels.. I have everything but the sway bars and MCS coil overs (which I expect any day now.) That's a lot of work to get dialed so I'll be busy with that for a while. Pretty much waiting on parts ...that's my hold up. Last edited by ILLSMOQ; 04-14-2017 at 02:14 PM. |

Quik-Latch. Same company that makes the little ones for holding the bumper on.

im hoping that those headers fit with no issues. That could make things much cheaper and easier.

Didn't get a lot done over the weekend unfortunately. Got the engine mounts off, still need to grind down the spot welds, and the long weld at the bottom. Engine bay is filthy again because of the rain/pollen. I really need a garage haha
![]() I also tore into the wiring harness to try and hide the large engine harness at the back of the bay. It's proving to be difficult as I didn't want to cut anything. ![]() Edit: Trying to get the car running asap. Thinking on the clutch master, I think I should be able to just mount the master to the firewall. I will need to cut the threads down a bit and make an adapter. My plan was two nuts the same thread of the master welded to two nuts of the same thread size of the old master so I can use the part that fits the pedal. My grandpa brought up a good point as we were both staring at the transmission on my Lunch break. What are we doing for hardware bolting the transmission to the engine... Guess I need to do some research on that oops.

Glad to see you got your transmission delivered. I just ordered my mounts and driveshaft Friday.

Did a bit more work last night. Got the e85 out of the tank. Drilling the spot welds sucked. I only got one side off of the trans mounts.
![]() Got the old FA20 Engine harness tucked into the cabin. What I giant pain. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now to try and find where to put the wires...

Why did you pull the main Engine harness back through the cabin?

It's not needed (or at least I can't see why it would be) and I didn't want to leave that giant bundle of wire just hanging there. (as it seems is done in all the other swaps I have seen)

So I was looking for the reverse lockout lever, only to find the magnum xl has electronic reverse lockout. Usually tied into the brake pedal. I will probably just wire it up to a switch for now, but later I want to integrate a momentary switch into a hidden button in the top of a shift knob. Push the top of the knob and you can shift into reverse.
I have also decided to just attach the 2.5" flanges to the a 3" merge to get the car up and running for right now. (mostly because I have 2.5" exhaust tubing). I will have my friends shop weld up the 3" from header back down the road.

No don't do that. The GM ECU has an input for that. it uses the VSS and everything else so that you cannot shift into reverse when the car is moving.
