I rather enjoy the passion shown by both sides.
When I bought my previous car (Mazda 626 with a 5spd) my dad said to me "you're pumped on manual right now, but give it a year or so, and you won't be so happy, I know the traffic you drive in to get to work, and you're going to hate driving stick every damn day".

He was right to an extent. It's not like I can't do traffic, I just don't feel the need to sacrifice just to have a third pedal, when really, 80+% of my driving isn't "sporty". While of course the AT isn't entirely up to par with the manual in terms of "fun" (because I can't launch the car, and I can't clutch kick (but how often do any owners do that, outside of sanctioned events?)) it's damn good enough that I don't feel like I'm truly missing out on anything.

I just feel like if you haven't driven the AT, you shouldn't be saying MT or die, bro. And to those who haven't driven one, I recommend that you at least give it a shot, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. (Special invite for you, @Tcoat you can rip my rice mobile around next time I see you)

I have driven an AT one and that is why I always state that most of the guys saying they are useless don't have a clue. They hear "AT" and seem to think it is the same tranny that is in a 91 Corolla or something. That is far from the truth.

Clearly not the same tranny as you would find in a Corolla

The best thing to do to head off an "AT vs MT" forum war, is do what @Tcoat did a few pages back, and bring in the favourite whipping boy: The CVT.

We CVT drivers wouldn't even be mad - we'd be nodding along somberly.

Probably one of the most repulsive people I have ever seen on a video! I just wanted to smack him about 30 seconds into it.

"for the price I could buy 8 of my Mustang" is the most telling statement of all!

LOL My wife's car has a CVT and I despise it. Even using the paddles does not help. It is the only one I have ever driven so I am sure that they are not all as bad though.

After driving the BRZ, the BMW (2007 335i Coupe), felt like a "floaty boat" -- and I bought the BRZ.

While I really like my FR-S,if I had the money,I would definitely trade it in for an M2.I'm still waiting to see what the next gen WRX/STI looks like though,as that will more than likely be the car that I trade my FR-S in for.
