All this over a ticking noise? Does this ticking noise everyone experiences come with any change in performance or is this just strictly a noise related issue?

And the pump still has no impact on mileage or how well the car runs.
MPG is iffy where i live bc of all the uphill driving. I'm sure if you live in a flat area, your mpg would def be better. Car does run better. With old pump it felt like engine would have to work harder to get moving, but after install it doesnt. I took to dealer for this once before the pump was swapped and nothing was found wrong. They kept car for 2 days. Found no issue. Car was driven about 15miles by techy according to dash cam that was kept on.

I have driven to Sacramento on hwy 5 and mpg surely has gone up! I do this drive monthly.

Crickets can happen on cheapo gas that is correct. Today it was 93 here and I drove for a good 50min. No crickets. A/C on and everything.

It can get annoying lol. I enjoyed it the first 2 years. 3rd year I just got OCD. Especially when I went to cars and coffee and people would ask me about it. A older gentlemen even asked me if it had a S/C hidden somewhere bc of the sound or something like that.

Haha makes sense. I figured it was more of a sound issue that bugged people. It seems like half the posts i read about the tick say it comes from the injectors and the other half say it comes from the fuel pump. Even with all the posted videos of the tick noises I still don't fully know if I'm hearing the same sound everyone else is. My 2017 has about 500 miles on it now and I've always heard the ticks from day one. Every evo owner would instantly identify those ticks as every day lifter ticks (I don't know if our engines have hydraulic lifters) or injector ticks so I never thought twice about it until I started reading all the posts about it. :-P

Nice to know it's nothing too serious.

The tick is the injectors. The chirp is the fuel pump. Two radically different sounds. These cars have the nosiest injectors ever!

I think the Mazdaspeed 3/6 holds the crown for noisiest injectors.

Mine has always made chirps at times. It comes and goes, does this affect reliability or performance? I'm past 60k is it even worth replacing the fuel pumps if the noise doesn't bother me?

I always considered it a part of the character of this car, the idle sounds like a chirping clicking mariachi band comprised of birds. Like I said this is not all the time just sometimes at idle, and I always use chevron premium gas 91oct only.

Evo 4 through evo 9 4g63 engine the lifter tick can get pretty loud. The second really dirty oil gets in these hydraulic lifters they just start hating life. Kind of sounds similar to the mazdaspeed 3 and fa20 ticks.

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlnMg5dHLkc"]evo 8 lifter tick noise ? - YouTube[/ame]

Though I know you can make it go away on a 4g63 by bleeding the lifter or changing for new one but the tick will always come back. Has anyone been able to make the ticks go away on the fa20 with injector upgrades or with an engine head built that uses a different valvetrain components?

That last video is exactly how my 22re engine sounds! I like it on that truck but higher pitched. 400k miles, no issues. Compression is still good on block.

The only non-tick FRS i've seen was a LS1[?] swap haha
