Also, MY17s still have crickets.
Didn't know that, haven't seen anyone post about their '17 crickets. I'm sure they should complain if they do hear them and get the updated pump.

Replace it...to have it make the same noise? Toyota quoted me with around $1300 for the replacement THEN that isn't guaranteeing I'll be receiving the "new" pump. 9.5/10 ppl that have had it replaced get the crickets back within 500-1000k. Is there any aftermarket brands that anyone can honestly say fix this?

@funwheeldrive

Toyota does not replace it for free on a 2013 with 27k. Trust me, I've tried every location within 100 miles of me. People usually have the common sense to try free first but I guess you have to be reminded by others.

I don't think anyone so far has had the crickets back with the new pump so please re read the thread. As mentioned earlier there are 1 maybe 2 aftermarket pump to replace the pump that start at $600 but why get that when this pump so far seems to have had success, time will tell but this 2nd iteration seems to be the proper fix.

2013 with 27k miles with audible crickets and they won't replace it, seems you're the only one that has had such bad luck. Call toyota. Just because you have no luck with dealers doesn't mean everyone else will have the same issue.

I am the second owner and I believe that was their main reasoning. An older gentleman bought it new, had everything done at a dealership so CARFAX was flawless, called the dealership of original purchase and they said the car had not come in for that issue. Any advice then on how to press this on them? Warranty with Toyota usually is 3year/36k so I'm out of that. TSB isn't a recall as technically the performance of the vehicle isn't hindered by this. Another reason Toyota gave me. I'll dive into those aftermarkets and check them out so thanks for that.

I'll see if I can dig up some of those old threads that people were saying the new pump wasn't the fix. A lot were 2014s but I know that doesn't really matter.

Powertrain is 6/60 and if he got it done before October 2016 than it's the 1st gen fix that was still a bad design. The owner doesn't matter, if it makes the sound and are under 60,000 miles you are eligible. Just bring the TSB from post #1

Update!!!! Many months after install.

MPG has settled about the same but better, vehicle still smoother.

Did crickets return? Nope.

I did force them to return by using cheap gas and not premium twice in a row. After 800 miles or so and 2 full tanks of Chevron Premium they wen't away. This is in 80-100 temps. No Cricks heard after using up cheapo-gas.

Summer breeze makes me feel fineeeeeeee

Those old threads were a different pump and are meaningless. This new one seems to have about an 80% reported success rate.

So the common reported cause can still happen then. That means the pump may have reduced but not eliminated the issue.

And the pump still has no impact on mileage or how well the car runs.

maybe i've missed something, but how come there are no TSB for a 2015 BRZ?
All the TSB's for the BRZ are for MY13-14 & 16

I don't know if this pump is the same as what's in the '17, but I've driven 2100 miles so far in mine and used 91 octane the whole time. So far no crickets.

I thought I heard them _once_ several weeks ago but I'm fairly sure it was just another car making a similar kind of noise near me at the intersection rather than my BRZ itself generating the noise.
