Air bags have come a long way, they just have a bad connotation due to all the hellaflush floating around on the internet. With a quality set up you can get close to the best of both worlds in terms of a low look and good ride quality.

Then again... not many people go for low and flush look on a rwd sportscar. Oxymoron.

I wouldn't describe with using words 'best'. With quality set up one can get middle budget coilover performance at double the price, as result paying unreasonable amount for that .. not smart .. trend of overlowering. Yes, good air setup can be better then low end coilover setup, but its light years away from penske/jrz and alikes.

You don't necessarily need 245/40/17 unless you want the meaty/balooned look like the blue car above. Diameter is same as stock. Steering may also feel kinda heavier and less agile from the rolling resistance and grip of all that tire. I used to run 17x9 with 245/40/17...

You could get a 225/45/17 if you want a slighty stretched look. Diameter is about 25", so it'll close the gap slightly more. 225/40/18 has a diameter of about 25" as well if you go with the 18".

Planninh to buy tires today. Still cant decide on size.

On willtheyfit.com..

245/40 has less of a speedo gap. Much less than 225 45. So how would 225 45 not make accel and oomph feel less than the 245.

Im just trying to keep the car with the original feel. Poking out an inch and dropping an inch im AWARE that that isnt stock feel. But i dont want to add to it by getting tires that change the ride more. So what shouldi get!!!!!! 225 is also almost an INCH taller. Thats a ridiculous amountif sidewall

As far as i can see the 245 on 17x8.25 fits as close to stock as the 215 fits on the 17x7

225 is wayyyyy off

225/45/17 has a diameter of 25", only 0.3" larger than stock diamater. It's probably the most popular size on 17x8. 215/45/17 could also fit with a slight stretched look.

I wouldn't recommend 245/40/17 if you're trying to stay closer to stock feel. I had that on 17x9 before...

What kind of tire are you planning to get?

1. No such thing as all season. No way, no how. Definitely not to freezing temp (or above 40, choose your poison). It's either mediocre in all seasons, or optimized for summer or winter.

2. Just because the diameter is the same doesn't mean you don't have more tire to the ground, which changes an awful lot... higher rolling resistance = lower fuel economy and different acceleration characteristics... not to mention difference in cornering. The wider you go, the worse it'll get in rain/cold too.

Based on your request, I'd go no wider than a 225.

That right eh? So what differences will i feel from 215/45on 17x7 to a 245/40 on 17x8.25. Pos and negs?

Im mostly interested in keepin rear playful as stock. Not having taller tires. Same or better acceleration.

Buying 225s i feel i may aswell stretch the stock 215s onto my 17x8.25? What difference would 225 really make. Wouldnt 215 on a 17x8.25 have zero traction, be hard as a rock and look ridiculous?

Went with 245 40 17 michelin pilot sport as3. Drove home in a monsoon, temp was 8 deg and i loved it. Felt so stuck to the road. No vioolent tc rear wheel spin on launch or merge
