2018 redesign? The 2017 refresh just came out and it'll stay the same for another 3 years or until it's last breath.

I remember on my club4ag days, moto-P posted something about Toyota japan contacting him and asking AE86 enthusiast what we liked about our car and what we wanted to see on a next Toyota sport car.

We actually got what we asked for in the form of the FRS/86, sadly tho, that's not what the world wants.

I'd like for them to keep it N/A, frankly it needs a la GSR or Type R version of a FA20 motor or even at 2.5 that can rev all the way to 8K RPM with aggressive gearing is all that it really needs, 8 speed auto from RC-F coupe to get the non hardcore stick shift buyers to consider the twins.

Upping the motor to 2.5L would decrease the rev happiness of it too much i think. An 8000rpm FA20 could make 220-230hp.
A 2.2L version of the FA that can breathe to 8000RPM should make 250hp on paper. That would be amazing.

Well Honda did it on the FD2 2007–2011 Honda Civic Type R (JDM)
221 hp (165 kW) @ 8000 RPM
159 lb·ft (215 N·m) @ 6100 RPM

I'd love for the 2nd gen to be a bit more like the S2000, but with a roof and 4 seats.

Or you know, honda could give the people what they want...

Can someone compile a list of just what the "most equipped twin" would be? Just what else does what is supposed to be a simple car need? I feel bad for the poor Toyota employee tasked with reading what the internet forums have to say about the car.

If the Supra ever appears, it will be great fun reading that forum to see how many people bitch about power.

I doubt it, especially if they offer a turbo. I am willing to speculate it should be not far from 400 HP. I don't recall people complaining regarding the 2JZ in the last model. How many engines produce 220 HP stock NA but can produce well over 700 HP safely on FI and stock internals?

It the FA20 was like that I'd have her putting out more than the 276 WHP I have now. Not that it is needed, but WTF.

If they go hybrid, NOBODY will complain about 100 % instant torque from the electric motor.

Probably not as much for Subaru (already had the WRX/STI), which might explain their less-enthusiastic approach to the partnership.
I think as long as Akio Toyoda is at the helm, they will find a way to make a niche sports car.
If you replace the car guy (Akio) with someone like the head of the malaise-era Toyota (1999-2009), then we might see a return to a Toyota line up with zero sports cars and 50 shades of SUV.
