I would rather take all the incentive with low rate on new car.
If I buy used, it must something I really want that is not in production. Just my opinion

Tacoma is the wise man's choice. It's reliable, has great resale value, and will cost the least in the long run. It's also not a great work truck, and there's not much room.
Tundra is big and reliable, but it's not the best work truck nor passenger truck. It holds value pretty well, but so do most full-size trucks. Only plus is reliability.
F150 is big and modern. Who drops shit into their truck bed anyway? Who places a steel tool chest on the side of the truck like that? Idiots do. The turbo motors are awesome. The V8 is for those who need displacement for more low-speed work, like if you're climbing a steep hill at low speed with a load. Kind of a border case, really. And with an auto, a turbo can handle that too. Maybe not the same throttle control.
Chevy 1500 (multiple companies) Like the Ford but not as good. Sometimes cheaper.
Dodge Ram Rides great. Some nice touches. A safe choice.
Ridgeline The truck for normal people. 5000lbs of towing is great for most people. Holds value well. Reliable. Comfy. The car of trucks.
Nissan LOL, wut? I bet you can get a deal, but the resale value will screw you.

Since you're towing about 1000lbs, and since you want speed and fun, and since you have a baby, I would get a Forester XT. It will tow a bit over 1000lbs, seat the whole family comfortably, be much, much safer, get better fuel economy, and hold value pretty well. Faster in a straight line, too.

Yep! Too bad we were specifically comparing tacoma and F150 resale. Percentage wise when you start with a vehicle that stickers at high 30s and it drops to mid 20s in two years that isn't great!

I've seen a hole in the bed and dude said he dropped an open ended wrench and it ripped through. The aluminum panels have definitely seen criticism, and it seems to be well warranted. Why do you consider the GM 1500 "not as good." Most car reviews go back and forth with this, but always seem to place the two as basically a tie.

Rust puts holes in most pickups. Not in aluminum though. A sheet of plywood on an f150 would get the best of both worlds. The aluminum stuff is just fud from gm.

The chevy trucks I have driven all feel low rent. I also don't trust the electronics.

Sure, plywood up the bed. A lot of people would wind up putting rhino lining in them anyways, which would probably prevent most through bed instances due to the weakness of it. I guess all the other third party sources complaining about high repair costs and general quality are "fud" as well?

I guess different strokes, but unless you're in a lariat or above F150 they feel like rental fleet vehicles. Even a base model GM has a decent interior and ride.

Not sure about electronics, I know the wifi hotspot stuff is new, but the rest has been around a while on the GMs and is proven reliable. I know the new Ford Sync stuff is still working out some bugs, but this is 2016. Electronics in general on most vehicles is reliable....

What kept me from buying a Chevy this go round was a combination of things.

I did go look and even test drove one.

For started I was looking at full size trucks with the Crew cab-extended cab-3/4 rear doors.
I did not want to buy a full size truck with the 4 huge full size doors.

So I found a local Chevy dealer with 14 2015 left over full size pickups (this was in May mind you). Out of those there were 3 with the 3/4 size rear doors.

Size: Out of all the full size trucks Chevy's rear seat area was by far (and I mean by far) the smallest. There was absolutely no way to get a full size adult back there without hitting the seatbacks in front of you unless that seat was so far forward your chest was in the steering wheel.

Price: Even though these were left over 2015 models Chevy wanted the most for their pickup. I got a better price on a bigger 2016 Tundra than an equivalent 2015 Chevy model. (technically the Tundra was better optioned because it had the sport package with AT tires, upgraded wheels and suspension)

Trade: Chevy offered me $5000 less for my Corvette than Toyota did and $4000 less than Ford.

So Chevy lost big time on the truck sale. They had nothing to offer for me to even consider buying.

There are few things I like and don't like about tundras.
I feel like there is not enough trim or option the truck, sure limited or plat is nice but then again I am not looking for 40 to 50k truck.
Another thing is the ride, tundra is big truck and they sure ride like one, I won't say that is bad thing but it is just like keep or fj cruisers, nice but I didn't like the ride quality.
I believe Chevy has 20% off right now but ford and dodge offers just as much incentive. I think price wise 4x4 Trd off-road vs full size trucks are not a concern.

Another reason for me to consider American truck is the loan.
I am guessing I will lose about 3 to 5k in Frs trade in. With taco as Msrp I do not see myself getting good apr with such large amount on top.
With big discount I should have no problem getting loan at low rate.
Credit is not a issue, I really hate it when dealership tell you "just refi later on" I want good rate now !!!

Bed protection is standard practice for a lot of truck owners. I never claimed F150s were reliable overall, but I'd say the same about GMs. My Spark EV's stereo is freezing regularly now. A friend's Volt was lemoned because it kept dying while driving. Another friend's Yukon had its entire ABS/traction system kill itself and was eventually lemoned. I've heard of other brands with issues, but in my circle, GMs are the worst, and I only know a handful of people who drive them.

We have a Subaru, a Scion, a Fiat, and a Chevy. We came from a Scion and a couple BMWs. Before that, we had an Acura. Brand loyalty doesn't really matter to us. The cars do.

Ford, IMO, was the absolute nicest truck.

I'm happy with my Tundra but it does make a few concessions to the Ford.

I got my Tundra just over 6k under MSRP out the door

As for financing Toyota had 0% APR for 60 months.

I mean how could I not go with that???

The Tundra can do 10k. That's about it, with the 5.7 and in 4x2 spec.

My 11 year old SUV can do more though so

That is why I said "half this forum".

From 1981 to 1984 I drove a 58 Chev.
From 1990 to 1994 I drove a 58 Ford.
Not as weekend toys or playthings but as the family DD.
Year round.
In Canada.

What you drive is not "old" yet!
