the guy's got a point about combining the multiple build threads. Can that be done? Or do I need to start yet another thread to be an umbrella thread? lol Having a "my wheels came in" thread in 6 months when we are talking about aero and lap times isn't exactly accurate.

Or can I change the title of the thread? Sorry for the newb questions. I guess I've never been all that "formal" on forums before...

This works for me, Matt. Pointed, clicked, then enjoyed reading your blog. I like your stated purpose and I also have prepared my garage for a new BRZ I am waiting for by cleaning it up and painting walls, cabinets, etc. so definitely can relate to the work you did and dittos on the comment about hiring someone next time! Thanks for sharing on here...looking forward to learning and watching your progress on your projects! Keep posting.

Glad to see him on here posting FR-S/BRZ stuff. The man is a great source of reliable info - extensive attention to detail, does his homework & is very focused on shaving time.

As for the wheels, they're not the prettiest out there but probably the best sheer perfrmance choice going...and it's awesome that they're hub centric. Non-hub centric wheels drive me nuts ( having to find hub centric rings and what not).

I'm considering these for my car but I'm not 100% sure if I want to pursue maxi um width for ultimate grip, or whether I want to aim for a less aggressive setup focused on light weight with a slightly better compound than the primacy HPs.

Will be interesting to see what kind of additional Gs a 245 or 255 tire will let this car pull versus a 225 or 235.

Matt, will you be data logging your results with a Performance box or something similar?

you guys are funny. thanks for the complements.

Yeah, we'll be collecting data. but it will be hard to get an apples to apples comparison without tire manufactures stepping up to help. comparing the 215 stock tire on a 7" wheel to a 255 xyz brand on a 9" wheel won't tell us much. I'd love to compare a 225 to 255 of the same brand on the same wheel potentially.

I will admit these wheels may not win a beauty contest, but I couldn't find anything else remotely close to meeting my criteria. and honestly, at 17.8 lbs, they aren't that much heavier than most 17x7's out there. I think maybe they have more presence in person than sitting naked next to the car. If I were in your shoes, knowing where you live, I'd get the big wheel. Then play with tire sizes. I think if you drive the car hard, in high temp environments, a 225 will overheat. it simply doesn't have enough surface area to dissipate the heat. Current street tires may be great, but the tread squirm in most of them kills performance because they create too much heat. The FR-S is light, but not THAT light. I simply don't think that 215 or 225s are enough tire for a 2700lbs car for more than a lap or 2...

so, I need a mod to change the title here, but I took a ton of photos with the intake system off and the nose off. All of them are in my blog, but here is one for those that complain you have to click to see them. :P

Agree with Blaine. I don't think that many people have time/inclination to hunt for your updates (no offense) but it looks like you will have some interesting posts!

here is a quick shot of the painted wheel. I'll go into more detail on why they were painted rather than quoted later...

hoping a moderator can help me change the title of this thread so I don't start a new one everytime I change subjects. :-/

Essex AP Racing brake kit went on the car this weekend. Hats off to those guys for a very well documented instruction manual. The steering is lighter and feedback through the steering wheel is better. (which is good, because with my 255's I lost a little of that feel from stock), I'll put them on track tomorrow and get more performance feedback then.

Here is a shot. More shots or a longer write up, go to my blog. I didn't feel like cutting and pasting everything here too.
