The station listed in Berthoud was accurate. At least I bought what was labeled as ethanol free 91 Octane. Took a picture because the sticker looked a little questionable, but when I went looking for it last night it was gone.

As far as the crickets Im not 100% yet I also hit over 1000 miles yesterday so I was playing with the car than anything.

It's strange but it seems that the stations that have the best ethanol free gas are also the seediest. There are some great looking regular gas stations around but I always go to the crappy ethanol free station down the road.

If you doubt the ethanol free content you can test it yourself with a glass jar and some water. Put about a cup of water in a jar and mark the level with a sharpie. Then add about the same amount of gas. Cap the jar and shake vigorously and let it settle completely. If the water level is exactly the same as before, it's ethanol free gas. If the water level has dropped then your gas has ethanol in it.

Ethanol absorbs water. The water will be partially absorbed into the gas causing your water level in the jar to drop. This is why you never store a car with ethanol gas in it. It will absorb water over time and corrode the fuel system and damage the engine. I would recommend sticking with ethanol free even if the crickets don't go away. But here's hoping they do...

Got out of my 2013 BRZ mostly due to the crickets. Just couldn't stay away and am three days into my 2016 LTD BRZ, manufacture date 5/16 with the newer style pump. Fingers crossed x 10!

Just curious, can you see your pump clearly or did you have to feel for it like me?

After about 3 full tanks of running only ethanol free 91, I can confirm the crickets are still there...

That's easy enough to explain, clientele and market. "Great looking gas stations" (at least in areas I have ever lived) are aimed at the mass market and are really more interested in selling what's in the store than whats at the pump.

The stations that sell ethanol free gas are after other markets, hot rodders, racers, boaters, off-roaders, hunters, fisherman, etc. Selling fuel is a big part of their business and they know who shops there.

I mentioned this earlier, but I have a 40 mile commute that is primarily secondary roads in Georgia. There are no less than 5 stations on that route that sell non-ethanol fuel, and they all are Mom and Pop stores with "questionable' interiors. 3 of the 5 serve a great breakfast by the way, but you could never get MomHawk to eat at any of them, but on weekends the parking lots are packed in the morning.

Maybe its just a Southern thing.

Your comment about gas station breakfasts got me thinking about home, as I'm debating what to eat for breakfast. So, I decided to check your profile and crazy enough you are from my home town Powder Springs, Ga. I graduated from McEachern High School in 2002.

Re: seedy breakfast places;

Always have the best food for the cheapest prices. I'm absolutely in love with places like these and always try to convince my girlfriend to try them, but it's always "no, I don't want to eat there because it looks gross"

Her loss I guess.

I bought my 16 in feb so i most likely have the old pump. That said, i have a full perrin cold air and the crickets are loud as ever on 91 top tier only. I could give two poops though since the car is so fun its rarely idling hahaha

Just as an update my MY16 does have chirps, they are quite annoying but I have noticed if I get fuel with no ethanol the chirps go away but the place I usually go has up to 10% so I just deal with it for now.

I just went to the dealer I bought the car from, told them about the TSB and they confirmed the noise through a video I made recording the sound. The service manage approved the TSB for the pump and it goes in for the swap on Friday!! So the dealer needs proof of the sound to satisfy the TSB requirements. If you have the crickets build date doesn't matter.

So, it's nighttime here, but seeing this thread I thought I'd go investigate. Car was built in September of '15, so early MY16 car even though I only bought it a month ago (sat in the showroom). I tried to see if I could find the pump, but I think (if I found it) it has a cover over it, so I can't see it clearly. I'll check again with daylight and come back here to edit this post. At least I know if I have the old style and it starts chirping, I've got a warranty covered solution.

I believe all of the 2016 models are susceptible to chirps. Even 2017 owners are getting them. I don't think it matters what fuel pump you have.
