Its an unnecessary risk. It adds 60 seconds to your oil change. Many people have these and continue to use them without issue, but its the ONE TIME, that ONE EXAMPLE that keeps me from ever getting behind something like this.

I have the no-nipple version and it does not protrude below the skid plate. I can't remember exactly how much clearance there is, but IMHO it's more than enough.

If you hit the skid plate hard enough to deform it and then hit a no-nipple valve, chances are you were going to mess something up anyway.

I'm Running the nipple-less version. My car is fairly low no finger gaps front or rear and I have scrapped my skid plate quite a few times. I'm not the slightest worried about mine, but I'm sure your probably terrified of these valves now.

perhaps for the #slammednation guys, but some cars oil pans sit slightly higher and or drain bolt is more horizontal to the ground. I've had one of these in my last 3 cars, love them and never had an issue with them. I even just got my dad one for his corolla.

if you're a relatively small framed person and your car is stock height, you should be able to reach under there and open the valve. however, you will be going in blind since your head probably won't fit under the car. you'll need to find a bucket that fits under the car though to catch the oil.

Im fat and lowered about 1.25in so I need a jack lol. Even stock and skinny I think it is too far in the center of the car and up into the skid olate to open the valve. My oil drain pan doesnt fit underneath either though so wouldnt matter if I could reach or not.

But i just got a set of Cusco ramps so now I should be able to just drive up and drive down.

I just don't see the point. You save 60 seconds, if that. Risk/Reward isn't worth it to me.

I have the no nipple version, I got it because according to the info I had at the time, the crush washer for our drain plug had to be changed every time you removed the bolt or it would leak, not expensive in itself, but another consideration. and seeing as how I have changed my oil more than once now, without the need for any tools, I have saved well over 60 seconds. And as I am at stock height and the picture shows the ground contact at no more than 1/2 of the long nipple on a lowered car, I don't see the risk outweighing the reward for me.

I think a no nipple version would be flush with the base of the oil pan, so I would probably run that, but then you lose the ability to attach a hose, which is the major draw of the Fumoto. I dunno.

I'm not disputing that many are running this with no issue, but I felt it would be remiss of me not to detail my own experience here. Your skid plate can and will flex given the right conditions. Your Fumoto doesn't flex with it. If you must have the nipple, run a shorty.

I'll take using a wrench and socket over worrying about if my oil is drainig while going down the freeway at 75 because I ran over road debris. Which happens quite often with tires here in Arizona.

I change my oil quite frequently as I drive 25k miles per year and I still would rather use an old fashioned bolt just for piece of mind. The slight convenience experienced by that Fumoto valve is not worth the aggravation of banging it/breaking it and a possible total loss of an engine. If you are trying to make it easier to do an oil change maybe just get a pump instead?

It's not about time savings. It's about not getting hot oil over your fingers and not having to deal with "torqueing it just right" so it won't leak and won't strip the threads.

If I'm hitting something on the road so hard that it dents the underbelly, I'll stop to assess damage anyway.
