It's always been a custom Between brands of vehicles that are "out of the ordinary". Examples could be BRZ, Corvette, Miata, VW Bug, MGB, Fiat, Mini Cooper. There are many and I apologized if I left yours out.

I always wave to other drivers of the same vehicle.. Even when I'm in my "other" ride lol.. I haven't seen another fr-s or brz yet but I wave to most Tundra, FJ, Z and Celica owners (sometimes)

In the East bay, Cali, we've been throwing up peace signs left and right! The other drivers are really taking notice, Especially the JDM ones!

On the rare occasion I ran across another MR2, RX-7, Z car, or E30 (when I was driving one), I'd give the wave. One time it was to this lady in her mid-50's who had no idea why I was waving at her until she realized, "oh, we have the same weird old Toyota" and waved back with a little smile.
I tried waving to MR2 Spyder owners years ago but they clearly did not get it - now that the Spyder is getting older I think they'll get snatched up by more enthusiast-types so the wave might be appropriate. S4/RS 4 owners aren't too enthusiastic, either; no big surprise there...
