Higher octane fuels usually burn SLOWER than lower octane ones but at 100+ then you may well have had a fuel made with a lower specific gravity than normal that may indeed burn faster. It would certainly be "racing gas". Normal pump gas octane (up to 94) is not "better", "more powerful" or in other way different than regular gas except in it's knock resisting abilities.


Going over 94 will do nothing for your car since the ECU is not designed for it. Unless you have a tune specifically for that fuel of course. There is no advantage to putting higher octane in the car with out a tune. In fact you can damage it.


The noise you heard was not likely because of the exhaust gases changing. There just would not be a big enough change to be able to notice. It could have been your car trying to cope with that high of an octane fuel though.

To the OP, I won't knock on you but when the other guy meant useful information related to your issue he meant what you just wrote. Had you started off by saying you were running BP Ignite 100+ octane race fuel then people would have been in a better position to assist you and would be much less likely to flame or troll you.
