I thought I posted a response to this earlier. Weird.

I can't see how. You're not modifying the vehicle. You're getting an insurance discount for having a vehicle equipped with DRLs. Once you disable them in the software, your vehicle is still equipped with DRLs. You're just not using them.

My insurer provides a discount for having a car alarm installed. They won't deny coverage if my alarm isn't turned on.

My insurer's discount for DRLs is 1%. They might as well just put on the website, "We know these don't actually do anything, but here's $5 for trying."

Must be a Canada thing. It's not illegal in the US to turn off DRLs, unless maybe the People's Republik of Kalifornia has made it so for its subjects.

And even if it were illegal, some cars come with DRLs, while others do not. Cops don't sit around and memorize which ones are supposed to have DRLs. They won't have any idea you have disabled them.

And even if they did, it wouldn't be a "disabling saftey device" ticket. It would be a fix-it ticket. You would just go back in with Techstream, turn them back on and demonstrate to any sworn law enforcement officer that they work. The cop signs the ticket, you mail it to the clerk of court and the ticket is dismissed without you paying anything.

Then you turn the fuckers right back off and LOL.

Here it would be disabling and a ticket since you have to have turn them off. You would also have to "fix" it. All cars made/imported in Canada since 2002 must have DRLs so the cops don't have to memorize shit, they just have to know roughly what year your car is. In fact in some areas they just have to pull up behind you, let the scanner in their grill do it's work and they will know what year it is (and everything else about the registered owner) since the computer will run the plates all on it's own.

So maybe not an issue in the US but a big issue for Ontario drivers. The reality of it is of course they would probably not ever pull you over just for that but why give them reasons?

Answer to that is easy

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The rest of the world paid for them and people already complain the FRS was "overpriced" with what it has.

That's actually my car in the photos It also was my first mod , to anyone that gets them a 5000K quality HID kit and the fteightysix DRL mod are a must have with it.

I can see why it isn't included in the FR-S thought, as tcoat said it's budgetary. A proper D2S HID headlight with those DRL Led strips would be a good $800 increase in the price, including getting it legal in the north america. Also remember the FR-S is the cheap "stripper" version of the car.

That's really not a fair characterization. Toyota created this situation in the US by hyping the fact that it would be a cheap sports car and going so far as to publish pricing targets that they couldn't possibly meet without cutting corners. People who thought it was going to be a $22K or $23K car were disappointed to see the base model at $25K. Then they looked at what the higher model got and were further disappointed to see that the car they really wanted was going to cost them upwards of $30K once all the paperwork was done.

Of course they could have said all along that it would be a $30K sports car, and people would have yawned and ignored it, and it would never have hit the market at all. But even so, it's hard to blame people for feeling a little misled early on about the price and options, especially when you see options for overseas models they didn't sell here at all.

Like that full sized spare with the lumpy cargo mat in Australia. I may end up importing one of those.

$23000 would've been incredible and alot of naysayers would've been shut up at that price.

I am sure I am one of the very small minority that does not like the HIDs and strip DRLs. I am 100% satisfied with what we got as far as lights go and would be looking to swap out anything that had the HIDs in it. Just a throw back for me I guess.

So, I went out and fired up my machine (MT) and the DRLs came on. I set the parking brake to get out to look at them and they went off.

I'm thinking that I never would (almost never) leave my car running in neutral and exit it, without setting the parking brake........ so, I would never see my machines DRLs, even if they were ugly.

So, I left my car running and got out and looked at the DRLs. I think they look pretty neat. :
I never realized they were that hard to see, lol. I am always parked at my office with a dark glass window that reflects the car back to me as I pull in.

It's not really necessary but it looks alright. The difference is pretty noticeable though at night, I've avoided stuff in the road much further out than I would've with the stock halogens. Also my area of the suburbs has almost no street lights so it's nice to have.
