exactly if you drive sedately as I said in a previous post it will likely be fine although I would not make a habit of it

if you drive it on highway it will likely knock significantly as you accelerate in high gears

Ive actually driven an E85 tune on about E20 as a test for a short period at low rpm/load

, but no one wants to tune their car and drive like that all the time.

Sedately, yes, and I do not make a habit of it. Again, I freely admit to fucking up my E85 fuel planning every now an then.

If I have crap in the tank, I drive knowing that I do and adjust (not being stupid) so as not to abuse the engine.

My whole point. Shit happens, and it will not destroy your car if you are not stupid.
Thank you for your post, which is an in your face for FRSBRZGT86FAN.

You are continually editing your posts, you repeatedly said you drive it with 87 in the tank.

True. I'm trying to not be an ass. However, still waiting for "never" and "always" from you. Since that is hard objective data it should be easy. Where is it? Steve, who I consider to be an SME (who you quoted as proof against what I said) just said you are (mostly) wrong. Still waiting on your objective, factual data.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Yes, I do drive it with 87 in the tank, not on purpose, it's because I fuck up my E85 fuel planning. It has never gone to zero on IAM in MY car. You said it will ALWAYS go to zero and be detrimental to engine longevity. I don't disagree that 87 octane is sub-optimal. You are the one making an absolute statement. Post proof. If not, STFU.

No thanks, I'll just admit I'm wrong. Feel free to datalog though and tell me that the IAM doesn't drop to 0 to compound the truth

I said I would. Again, try to keep up.

POST EDIT ALARM: 3/4 bag of 91 octane currently on board, don't need to go anywhere until early May. I will make every attempt to burn that gas just for fun as soon as possible and fill with 87, just for you. A hard run to the coast and back should just about kill whats left of my tires and tank of gas. Since you are the expert, what do you think of Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06's on a 17" diameter 8" wide wheel as my next set of tires? Good reviews, but you have the final say being all experty and shit.

I drive almost exclusively on the highway and the three tanks of 87 that I ran (not consecutively) did not create any notable knock at any point. Believe me I was listening. There may be a big difference in overall quality and other additives between the gas in different countries/continents though that could account for that.

Unfortunately the next trip was when I encountered the Sunoco garbage 91. It made a definite difference in the way the car ran. Extremely sluggish, like being in limp mode. Gas mileage dropped from a normal of 29 mpg for me down to 21 while that shit was running through it. The difference was so pronounced that I was actually a little worried and filled up again with 93 before the tank was empty to try to bring up the octane. There was an immediate, noticeable improvement, even when mixed.

The problem is that Sunoco is not a "mom and pop" place. It's a fairly major brand, albeit second tier. They have bought up a lot of the stations that used to be top tier out in bumfuck Texas and replaced the gas with hog pizzle. The station where I filled up was quite busy, so it's doubtful the stuff had been sitting in the tanks long enough to go stale.

A Sunoco branded station can still be a Mom and Pop operations. Busy and selling 91 do not necessarily go hand in hand in rural areas. They probably have the 91 sit in tanks for years!

you wont hear knock on these cars unless its extremely bad.

Ive seen knock corrections of -3 degrees and IAM at 0.5 and you don't hear any knock in cabin ,but it sure shows up in the logs.
