Having a good attitude about "shit happens" while doing this kind of thing is the difference between having a good time and doing it for most of your life or having high blood pressure, getting burned out, and being compared to Juan Pablo Montoya.
So true on both statements.. How did that old country song go? "You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel...."

At Buttonwillow, the only way to get faster Bus Stop into Riverside is to hop that curb.

Every single person wanting a fast time at that track does it.

Where he lost his wheel, I was doing ~85MPH on the same tires.

Someone with much bigger balls than me would do 90+ WOT.

I was more interested in negotiating the course correctly than about lap times.

It just seems to me if you're not wheel to wheel with someone that leaving the ground might be able to be avoided? I'm sure I'll eat those words someday....
It's frowned upon the same way you're supposed to brake straight, and not go wide open throttle until you're straight, and smooth is fast.

Once you have a grasp of the basics, a lot of the techniques used to teach beginners fundamentals go out the window.

Maybe it's just the camera, or more likely the car, but neither video looks as violent as the lost wheel dude. It is most certainly the same line though. Great video's!

Here's a better shot of what 99.99999% of guys at Buttonwillow do to drive fast:

I did a slide (I think shocks are donezo) and about a 20 degree angle into the apex at 97mph with a car that likes to rotate more than stick. I think you will be fine.

The old guys didn't come out to show the young bloods on how to go fast. Those guys are the real God Hands.

I saw a Miata wheel from a well known aftermarket Miata wheel vendor do the same thing at Watkins Glen. It wasn't the first time that'd happened with that particular wheel, that I'd heard of. That vendor made changes in the casting process to resolve the issue. Street tires may be "OK" with Chinese-ium wheels. I would not run real grip on them. If real grip and curbs cause Enkei wheels to bend...

I'm pretty sure smooth is fast even at the top level of motorsports.
