The wheel gap is best fixed by lowering. By going with an oversized tire, you will have inaccuracy in your speedometer. You will also enjoy the affects of higher gear ratios due to the increase in diameter of the wheel and tire. In a car some call "underpowered", this is probably a negative. To best illustrate what I am talking about, see this: http://www.frsproject.com/tire_size.php

Also, both sizes are way too big for stock wheels.

What would be the best set up without doing any sort of modifications?

I'm trying to go for a wider look, all in all, I want the tire to stick out of the body more than stock (where it is inside the body).

Also, gave her a wash and detail today. So shiny.

Some reference shots below of the 245/40/17, car is lowered 20mm. Same rolling diameter as stock, but the extra poke on the tires fills out under the fenders horizontally.

I'm on 8" wide wheels so it looks meaty but steering did soften up a bit. On a 7" width wheel it will probably be quite understeery and rolly polly? Best option would be buy some wheels that are wider or have lower offset. Or put spacers on.

http://www.frsproject.com/tire_size.php

This is the tyre calculator you can find in the wheels section of this forum, have a play and you'll get a visual of how different tyre and wheel combos work together.

The quick & easy way to do this is just with spacers. Then you can save up for wider wheels to accomodate wider tires. For a 245 width tire, go with a 8-9" wide wheel.

On my 17x8s, I went from a 225 to a 245 and it definitely made the steering feel a bit sloppier. I'm about to get them re-mounted onto 17x9 wheels and am looking forward to crisper response.

As others have said, spacers or bigger wheels for a more finished look. Also, I have heard of others going to 225/45r17, but again it will affect gearing and speedometer. Also will affect fuel economy somewhat due to heavier tires and altered gearing.

Wrapped the center console silver pillars in alcantara. That wasn't too bad.

Need to replace the knee pads next.

Added Cusco HT pedal and practiced a little on turning downshifts to second.
Also ran thru a tank of petrol. Filled with e85 for first time, reflashed and put about 10 easy miles. Then began hot doggin it running it thru a few gears. Don't know if the ecu is still learning after another 10 harder miles, but the change felt was more dramatic going stock to oft stage 1 on 93 pump than 93 pump to stage 2 el e85.
It's great to know if pump prices rise again, ethanol may be more cost effective. Upside is I filled up a 20 bill and some change.
