I'm from Australia and have a BRZ on order (actually being built today!). I was sent an email offering the S pack (17" STI wheels on stock tyres, shift knob, short shifter, start button body kit, STI springs and flexible front brace - I think that is all from memory) for $7,995. They said it was limited due to worldwide deman for STI parts and that they wouldn't be offering individual parts in the foreseeable future.

Based on that I don't like you chances of them selling it cheaper. More like jack up the price and keep it exclusive with good margin on it. Doesn't make sense to sell a high volume variant of a low volume car.

I watched a "How Do They Do It?" on the Science Channel the other day. They were doing a segment on the Subaru plant in the US that makes the SUVs. Robots take care of the small differences between models and trims as they are programmed to bring the right parts to the right sub-assembly lines. It's pretty cool stuff. I'm sure the Japanese plant that's churning out the 86s are just as advanced, if not more.

Got a ding on the hood with less than 50 miles on mine.

You learn to accept it pretty quickly. The car is meant to be driven, shit happens.

Kinda on-topic, here's my WRX without clear bra and me trying to us Dr. Colorchip to paint-match and repair it before selling it. The paint wound up settling 100X better than the little kit Subaru provides.

After I got my BRZ I got clear bra ASAP. I still got a tiny nick, but otherwise I got it on clean. Now it's taken abuse and I'll probably replace it this winter. Alaska uses gravel during the winter, although some spots they still use salt. Ridiculous.
