I also can't get the first to second gear shift as smooth as the 2-3 shift and every other gear shift afterward. I find that I need to roll off the clutch much, much longer in first and second gear in order not to upset the car.

I had the same problem for the longest time until i just shorted my clutch pedal. Its very simple and engaging the clutch faster at lower rpms really fixed the smoothness for me.

Now i don't mean dumping the clutch but when you at least line up the clutch pedal to the break its the perfect length!

An uel will make your exhaust note different yes. Any change to the exhaust will.
E85 may make it different. I do not know.
Different octane levels do not make your car louder or quieter.

Haha
I actually asked myself the same question after writing that post. Had one of those hmmmm moments.

I went back and gave 94 a try again. Officially hooked. The difference in power is noticeable.

I also realized the change in sound - as strange as this may seem to some - was actually due to elevation change. On my daily commute I go down into a valley then come out again. My ears plug and pop every day. When plugged the sound is less
