About once a year, my Dad used to take his WWII vintage sextant out on the front lawn of the house in Toronto and take a position. He was happy if he got within 15mi or so. He always used to say if he got that close, he could find the English Channel if he was sailing across the Atlantic.

Of course, this was the same guy that bought an early consumer marine GPS for the family sailboat. This would have been around 1990 or so, way before moving map displays. All it had was a cross track error and heading display. He spent all winter programming waypoints in. Then he decided we had to sail to all the waypoints to make sure they were right. I just remember him behind the wheel of the boat, steering with his head down while staring at the GPS display. The display only updated every 2 seconds or so, then it would take a second or so for him to turn the wheel, then a few seconds for the boat to respond. The closer we got to a waypoint, the bigger the heading error variations as he was trying to correct for the cross track error. Eventually we ended up motoring in a sort of figure 8 pattern 50yds short of the waypoint. The whole time, my Dad never looked up from the GPS. Fortunately there was no wind, so we were motoring, and there weren't any other boats around.

Used is fine, mainly what I was looking at.

I mean I just don't want something like a Corolla or Prius.

<$15k, 2 or 4 doors is fine but needs a backseat.
Was looking at some TSX and TLs.
2004 Subaru WRX/STi (if you can find one that's stock it will be semi-reliable)

Are you ditching the WRX? I'm not a fan of the Mazda 3.

Yeah.

There's some major restructuring going on at my work and while I'm not directly affected, it just has me thinking I could be better prepared for things if I did get laid off.

So the cash from the sale+$400 a month extra would be nice.

I know the Subie fanboys will jump all over me but if not adverse to FWD the 08 to 12 Lancer GTS is a great little, fun, daily driver. Also reliable as hell contrary to hat many will say.

FWD is NOT the same. (It is cheaper tho) I don't even like driving the BRZ in the snow and that's rear with a great traction control / VSC system.. it's not that I can't do it just that I have tasted the forbidden fruit that is AWD fury.

Didn't you have a bad experience with a Lancer before the FRS?
