The govt. is furher ahead than you even know. Think about we had the SR-71 (project OXCART) well it was the A-12 then in 1956. People thought they were alien ships! In 1956 I Love Lucy was still making new episodes and Broken Arrow was about an Apache "Indian" (Native American) not a B-3 Stealth Bomber

Cool ain't it? Care for a Coke or something? LOL ironic thing is the Apaches first made contact with the aliens that we got the technology from...

I live less than 5 miles from the police station. There's an army reserve/readiness center thing another mile down the road from that. Like, a dozen cops live in my subdivision. Nothing, and I mean nothing ever happens here. My car gets to idle during the winter every morning by itself. If someone took it, I'd be extremely surprised.

Why isn't it common practice to add a gps unit to all new cars that can be tracked via cell phone? I'm getting a unit for my car... costs about $200 and another $5 a month after the first year

There are certainly relatively safe places but there is still risk. That perfectly good 14 year old from two doors down may just decide that it is too tempting and decide to go for a ride. People think that all cars are taken by hardened thugs and seasoned criminals when in reality many are taken by perfectly normal kids that just gave into temptation.
Five miles from the police station may as well be on the moon. Hell shit gets stolen FROM police stations.
If you are cool with the risk in your laneway that is one thing but leaving it running at night, in the empty parking lot of a plaza in a large city is something totally different.

I wouldn't leave it running in public. And honestly, the cops don't really give me any security. I just reference the police station proximity as a reason why nothing happens here, but really the reason my car sits outside, unlocked, idling is because that's what I've done with every car I've owned since day one. Car's frozen? Better warm it up. I think it's because I used to live out in the country and no one was around. I picked it up from my parents because nothing happened out there either.

The little shit kids in my neighborhood are probably more than capable of taking a car though. They're annoying.

Best example. I was driving through downtown as clubs were letting out. There is one right across the street from PD and people were pooring into the streets. Sure enough there was a shooting right outside the police station at an otherwise quiet 2am. They didnt know it had happened.

Mine would probably get him grounded for all sorts of medical reasons that should not exist in a guy his age!
