Yeah, I wanted to jump into that thread when I first spotted it and say what Tcoat posted but... Tcoat put it in much nicer and elegant words than I would've.

Shit like that drives me nuts. I won't leave my car running even in the suburbs. If I have to run back in the house in my "middle class and white" neighborhood I still turn off the car and pull the keys. Hell, in the winter I sit in the damn car while it is warming up(I'm more concerned about the oil being up to temp than me being warm ).

My coworker was really surprised when I told him I was only 24. He said I do really good work at our skill level.

I told him when it comes to technical stuff, I can learn and retain it quickly. I'm just extremely lazy and unmotivated most of the time.

I just let it run from a place I can watch it. Nobody would take my shit anyway though, not in my neighborhood, unless maybe they were from some far away place where they don't know who I am. One time I was driving my Fiancée's Hello Kittyd out Impreza and this dude was walking in the middle of the road. I beeped at him and he moved out of the way (startled him too because I got real close first going 2mph clutch-in). But then I was driving away and he threw his arms up in the air. You should have seen his face when I slammed the brakes and got out of the car. He had a bible in his hand and he held up as if that should would ward me off. I put my finger in his face and told him if he wants to be a tough guy not to be a tough guy in my fucking neighborhood. Even the crackheads know better than to mess with me. These teenagers were hanging out on the porch and they circled around behind me laughing and egging me on

This old lady was watering her flowers but I just glanced at her for a second and she pretended she didn't see a thing. A cop was driving by and stopped to ask if everything was OK. I told it was fine and that I had everything under control. He just laughed and said of course you do. He offered to take him in anyway but I was like nah he's just tweeking probably too much time in 'church.' As the cop was walking away I told him to do a burnout. He turned around and walked right up to my face all serious and shit. Everyone was silent. But then I smerked, he smerked, we started laughing and everyone else joined in.

I'm sorry to turn this into a rant but sometimes the best security is just be cool with your neighbors and know the people in your own damn town. Don't live life with blinders on and act like you don't know nobody outside of work and family. Having a reputation as cold ass street thug too doesn't hurt either. Machiavelli once said "It's better to be feared than loved."

Why are people surprised when young people can do tech stuff? About 90% of the military tech is done by people between the ages of 18 and 25 not the old timers.
If a 25 to 30 year old can operate a $340,000,000 F22 I would think they can do about anything. The guys that maintain the damn things are probably well under 25!

@p1lot
Won't let me quote and hate to do this to you but "cool story bro"! We are not talking neighbors or small town hood wanttabes here.
Now take your car to Chicago and leave it running in a deserted parking lot. I dare you!

If I came across the ocean to your town I would respect your town as yours. Usually when I travel it's just for pleasure anyway, not... business. If it was business I'll be dressed in all black and nobody going to know I was even there till is too late.

I'm too cheap to leave my car running, although I have done it on occasion when traveling and our dog is with us. If we stop for a meal and can't find a pet friendly location, I'll park it in sight of the windows, leave the car/AC running and lock the doors.

I figure the sight of a 150lb dog in the back seat is probably enough of a deterrent, even though the worse she would do is probably lick you to death and make recommendations on alternate routes during the getaway.
