Plus the yearly license fee. We stopped updating ours and are on an old version. Our CAD guy threw a mini fit about it but we just don't use it enough warrant paying anymore for tiny updates every year.

Just get something cheaper. Solidworks is a good time saver if you use it all day everyday, but there are other applications out there that aren't so expensive.

We already have it so it is no big deal. He just has to use .step files instead when getting files from a newer version. I couldn't imagine the indignation his ego would suffer if we made him use a "lesser" software.

Sorry, joke wasn't clear. Solidworks is costly (from what I read up online), it's not worth owning it just to 3D once a great while... unless it become my profession.

Fusion 360 is pretty good for modeling things to print. Personal license is free.
