On the other hand our one manager here is sitting on millions from years of diligent monitoring and smart (lucky?) trades so it can go either way.

Yea you don't lose "everything" in the stock market in one year unless you are doing some seriously speculative crap, or you went all in on a company (or companies) that went belly up in a a year..

That is about all he does as well. It is all I have ever seen on his computer screen.

Ugh. So much work drama.
One of our sales guys, started here the same time I did, just up and quit. Text our sales manager and said he wasn't coming in unless he got a pay raise. He also complained he doesn't see any more opportunity for advancement. Now we have had a terrible last two years due to covid. I want a raise too and have gone far beyond my duties but at this point I am just happy to have a job that pays the bills and for my hobbies. We have also had a vacant manger position for 18 months in a department he has tons of previous experience in. He could have waltzed down there, set up shop, and nobody would have batted an eye at it and would probably be given that department by now. Our production line supervisor has also decided to quit, though he had the balls to at least talk to our GM about it. He also wants more money because "he hasn't gotten a raise in 20 years." It has really been like 10, we started profit sharing in 2010 which has averaged out to about a 30-40% pay increase for most people here. His son was fired a couple years ago and went on to start his own auto repair shop. It is really him who does 90% of the work. He thinks he can make more money doing that though I think he is not realizing he is going to have to pay medical insurance and taxes himself. We pay medical 100%. He is 56 and not that far from retirement, which we also pay 100%. Of course all this has gone on and our GM hasn't explained anything to anyone. So all other staff members are wondering why they haven't seen these two guys in a couple weeks

Edit: Actually, it was OD Green. It was one of the casualties in the crash. The bike was an OD Green with weird purple accents. A 2000. My colleagues referred to it as the North Korean Army surplus motorcycle. I finally put a large red star on the front of the fairing.

Just got a call back from the 2nd dealer for my 2013. No fix again and owe them 200 to check it out. I'm 90% there. Going to just try to pawn it off to carmax this weekend. I could have bought another car for what I'm putting into it.
That being said off to cut the grass and light the grill. Last day in a long stretch where it won't be raining.

lol, most auto repair shops are book time as well, which tends to work only in the owners favor most times. my brother just moved auto shops about a month ago. back to where he came from, but with a few caveats on pay, work, and insurance stuff. he liked the lesser driving distance where he was--keeping him closer to his kids, but that was really the only benefit--one of the mechanics literally ran the shop(when the service writers and service manager should have overseen all of it, in that order), cherry-picked service tickets for himself that he would then stash away, and basically treat everyone else like trash. there were 4 techs, and besides The Golden Boy and his dirty tricks to average booking 40-50 hours a week, everyone else averaged 10-30 hours max on normal days. slow days were even worse. all the while, upper management complained that they needed to hire and staff a minimum of 6 techs at any given time... the place he went back to has at least 4x's the work all the time, but is now +45min further away. last week one of the remaining guys he's on good terms with called him to chat. said another guy just walked out that day. he had been part of the national guard reserves, and had been working covid sites for the past 8 months. came back to the shop about 3 months ago. said he went to lunch for 1.5 hours after pulling a car apart. came back with a tow truck behind him, loaded up his tool box, shook the techs hand that was talking with my brother, and left. didn't even tell the other 2 techs, service writers, or service manager. talk about burning bridges...

Yes but, in the auto industry you pretty much have to go dog-eat-dog.

The motorcycle industry was similar. I got sick of fighting it and bailed. Being the engine guy, and the fork and shock rebuild guy, and the wheel builder. Oh and being the only guy in the shop that was willing to static balance wheels for track guys. The dude in the bay next to me got cake regular service work and was paid the same. It culminated into me blowing up on the service manager loud enough to be heard on the sales floor. We “mutually” parted ways after that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
