Fender liner melting with some headers or turbos has been mentioned before. I don't remember what you have done to your car.

I have ceramic coated headers. Maybe the overpipe gets hot. Another thing it could be the accessory belt touching the inlet tube. The smell goes away quick after WOT.

Could have been debris or a timing cover leak on to the header.

Well the belt touching the tube should be a real easy visual.

Man, I was just reading the seal replacement for that, have to pull the whole engine. Does this usually happen when in WOT?

Yes, they are. I have a Habit Grill near by and often go thru the drive thru just for some green beans for a snack.

I'll inspect it today after work, I was on my way to work running a bit late. Is a little weird since this is a fairly new car, less than 26K miles.

Sustained acceleration probably got the exhaust hotter then normal. Just my guess.

Yes to reseal the timing cover, engine has to come out.

It did remind me of the smell I sensed when I first fired up the engine after installing the headers. I don't usually drive on WOT, so it probably never really settled.

Talk about things melting, we are expecting 9 days in a row over 100°F. Way hotter than average. Ouch!

Dry heat or Satan's asshole (Fort Polk, LA) type of heat that has 98% humidity.
