As for Spirit, it seems like their infrastructure just wasn't all there when I used them, and the customer service folks were overwhelmed and/or not efficient in both airports. So that signals higher risk to me. Maybe it was just that they had more difficult passengers due to lower prices bringing in less experienced travelers? |

That’s usually a good plan to stick with airlines that have a hub on your route. I had the same opinion on Spirit. They only had one flight leaving Detroit a day. That’s why they couldn’t get me out for another day. I’ve been stuck before but usually not for more then 6 hours or they would be able to get me out on a flight that could get me to an airport with a connection to where I was going next. just be sure to make the door swing into the hidden room. the other way around ruins the effect when it starts scratching the floor. Quote:

We flew Spirit to Vegas twice. It was great both times. We paid extra for the fancy big chairs, and it still cost less than Southwest. Just measure your carryon beforehand. We got the same hot stewardess both times, and she recognized me about 6 months later.

Why is this a thing? Is it just the novelty of it? Because hidden rooms aren't really hidden unless the floorplan is confusing AF.

Ugh. Brand new tub/shower surround. Was holding it up while tapping it over with my palm and busted it.

widget latches really aren't that hard. no different than a yard fence latch system. i could do better than that video even. with some careful measuring and a long drill bit at the right angle, there's really no reason to have the cable come out of the bottom of the shelf, though a fake shelf bottom would make the job a lot easier... could use compound pullies to lower the force and increase travel of the widget to open the door as well. if i had a 'secret' door, i'd do a widget latch on it for nothing else but my own entertainment.

i did an after-drywall surround partly because my walls weren't straight enough for me to confidently fit a rough-in surround. part of me is happy with it, the other part wishes i could have cut down on the requisite drywall... i think the rough-in type offer a little better sealing qualities at least.

Something like this, they sell complete units or just the hinges so you can custom build your own:
