I have never bought new wheels but have replaced many with used ones. I think I may once even had a car with 4 the same on it.

I hear that!

I couldn't even afford to change hub caps to "full" hub caps. Even though I wanted soo bad a set of Oldsmobile "flipper" full hub caps.

I had to settle just to paint the steel rims a different color when I wanted a change.

Yep, the best ones were towards the back of the pile, about two layers down. Congratulations on finding four alike!

it's like wedding rings. the $4k one is prettier.

i've always loved advans. i spent a few weeks a little while ago trying to track down some 5x100 3-spoke advans before the actual costs and rarity kicked me back to reality.

Forged wheels are stronger and lighter. They are more expensive because it is a hell of a process to forge the blank, then machine. As opposed to casting where you get a mostly finished product out of the casting and it just needs finish machined.

Hm... that’s all depends on what the design & used for. Cuz some brands make just for the looks and costing that much vs some brands like Volks make wheels that’s lighter & stronger than other wheels in that spec using tech like Forged instead of cast wheels.

You can get really good cast and really bad forged. It depends upon the specs that were requested.

Have you heard of carbon fiber wheels? Those wheels cost more than $10k! Some are $5k~$8k per wheel!

That’s def the case. It’s all up to the brand. Where they manufacture & how they manufacture it. I had good chunk of cast wheels and some have survived brutal beating while my one buddy’s forged wheels couldn’t handle the same stress... which was very surprising.

I couldn't imagine screwing up a forged part. So much labor down the tube

Aluminum looks like it is fun to process. It's phase diagram is ridiculous and it all happens at comparatively low temperatures.
